Is there an Inventor Viewer?

How come AutoDesk TrueView can't open or view idw files? Isn't AutoDesk one company? It is a pain to have to keep a drawing format that is not linked to the model file so that shop floor, who don't have Inventor can look at a drawing.

What version of Inventor are you using?

With later versions there is Inventor Read Only.

Or with internet access there is http://viewer.autodesk.com

I did find the Inventor Read-only program. Is it a stand alone viewer like TrueView or does it require having Inventor?

I am pretty sure that it is stand alone, but I am not absolutely certain.

its a standalone viewer but does require using the Inventor installation to get

Hi Barry and JD,

Inventor ReadOnly is like an Inventor running on a special license-free mode. It is not a standalone tool and it cannot be run without major Inventor dlls. It is installed along with Inventor. It just does not require a license to run.

The traditional Inventor View is still available. It is labeled differently now. It is part of Inventor Apprentice Server deliverable. Here is the page to download Inventor View 2021.

Another option to view Inventor files without Inventor is to use the Autodesk online viewer, viewer.autodesk.com.

You could take a look at the Autodesk Viewer online. This only requires a browser and internet. Also look at the Shared Views feature in both Inventor and Vault, it utilizes the same viewer. You can share a model or a drawing, and send a link to the shared view to anyone. It will open for them using this viewer. The Shared Views are saved in the cloud and are active for 30 days.
