Hi Matt,

The little dot is the fully constrained symbol. When the dot is solid (dark), it means the component is fully constrained. When it is empty, it means there is still degree of freedom left. Go to Tools -> App Options -> Assembly -> check "Enable redundant relationship analysis." With this option on, the dot status will be more persistent.

Many thanks!

This explains what the constraint symbols mean. This is great.

What does the blue dot with an exclamation mark in it mean??

Hi Paul,

It usually means some sort of warning. You could move mouse cursor to the sign and the tooltip should reveal it. Please feel free to share a screenshot or the files that exhibit the behavior.

Many thanks!

I believe that means that the Checked representation is the selected one, according to this quick glance tutorial i found. i didnt realize you could do different representations like that as i never really had the need except one time, and i barely started using inventor around then. Great find, thank you!!

https://www.engineering.com/autodesk-inventor-tutorial-positional-representations/
