Extruding Curve Instead of Plane

I am trying to extrude the plane inside of a curve that I imported, but it seems to want to extrude the outline of the curve, and I can't get it to extrude the whole plane. I tried projecting geometry to a plane, but the same thing occurred. How can I fix this?

Switch to a solid, then click on the red cross and look at what comes of your sketch. Looks like there is some weird stuff going on in some points. Unless my screen is going bonkers.

Thanks, that worked! I didn't realize it wasn't a closed loop for some reason.
