Hello,

We are currently working in Inventor 2024.3.1

We have experienced a couple issues recently when working with a couple models. The only real consistent variable in both of these parts is that they have several model states created for each. Any input that can be provided to get to the root of these errors would be appreciated.

I was able to find some information about PmGraphicsSegment seeming to point to a computer graphics card running out of memory. I was not able to find any information on what PmDCSegment is related to. If anyone has some information that would help us get to the root of what can cause these errors to pop up that would be great.

This error was reported by a user after simply loading an assembly where the part file was consumed.

This error was reported by a different after using copy design from vault. An assembly was copied and renamed where the part model was consumed and re-used. Then loading the copied model file.

Any segment error is usually associated with file corruption. In your case, I assume the files are very complex with lots of model states and something broke, or the underlying data got corrupted in transfer or on disk. You would need to forward it to Johnson or other devs to analyze the faulty files with tools only devs have for probing how the files got corrupted.

Hi Matt,

It looks like the files are corrupted. Please share the files in zip with me (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I would like to see if our internal debug tool can help salvage the files. It may or may not work regardless.

Many thanks!

Hi Matt,

I did receive the files. Without sharing the detail of the files, I can share my reply here.

Hi Matt,

I took a quick look at the two files on 2024.3.2. I cannot seem to see any error. The parts Rebuild fine (even after I used the internal debug tool to migrate the features to 2024). I suggest you install 2024.3.2 and see if you are still seeing errors.

Many thanks!

Thanks Johnson we will continue to monitor the situation.

One other piece of information that maybe your internal team can keep an eye on. I have gone into this model state part and tried to reduce the complexity by removing options / variables that are rarely ever actually used. somehow this part had bloated up to a 88mb file. By removing out one variable set in the table (half of the potential options) the file size was reduced down to 2.6mb. Seems like something is causing these file sizes to become bloated over time when making updates and changes to model state values?

Hi Matt,

The file size increase is due to the Model State member docs. When the Model States are authored, the member docs are not generated. They are generated when the part or assembly is referenced (consumed) by another assembly or a drawing.

You may confirm my statement by opening the ipt/iam archive via 7zip. You will see a Member Doc folder. There contains the data for each member docs. You can see the size of those member docs.

Many thanks!
