iProperties formulas

I am trying to use a formula in my Custom iProperties. The equation isn't equating.

What am I doing wrong?

As far as I know you cannot do equations within iProperties.

Can you not create a new parameter, do the sum and then reference that in your custom iProperty?

can you post your part file?
Seems like you have already exported the parameters and unless my eyes are still foggy from last night everything looks ok in your images

I have no idea why it gives this kind of trouble. I've attached the file with the custom iProperty as I think you want it to appear (Inventor 2020 format).

Here's how I managed it:

Open the Parameters dialog, uncheck Export for each of the three parameters, then close it
Open the iProperties dialog, write the expression in your custom parameter as you would expect: =<d15> x <d17> THK x <d16> LG -- it appears as plain text with all the brackets and stuff; OK the iProperties.
Go back to the Parameters dialog and check Export for the three reference parameters, close the dialog
Go back to iProperties and voilà, there is the expression as you wished

I have no idea why this works If you try to edit the expression in any way, it breaks and you have to go through this hassle again.

Sorry, your question made it sound like you were trying to do maths inside the iProperty.

@hEINSTEIN I'm having no problems using the following workflow..

Edit the value field of Material Size and enter the following (without quotes) "=<d15> x <d17> THK - <d16> LG"
Press Modify button
Press Apply for that dialog box
Close the iproperties dialog box
Go back into it and the formula is functioning just fine.

I really think its a "dance" of just putting the formula in then closing the dialog box that gets it to "stick".

Even easier-- has nothing to do with the Export setting, everything to do with properly displaying the expression in the dialog in real time.

I'm really surprised nobody flagged that in beta testing, let alone in years of production use since then. And, I just tried it in 2022 and in 2016 with exactly the same results. Seems like it would be a relatively simple fix...

My signature has an image in it, so my posts always have the image icon (except this one!). I didn't put any other images in that post.
