Hi! Here is a tool developed by our partner ITI. It can bring various CAD data (part, assembly, and drawing) to Inventor in high fidelity.

I have a client with Solidworks models that I need to revise with the current version of Inventor. I tried Feature Recognition without success. Possibly the models are too complex for the add-on. If anyone is aware of software that can be purchased to convert from Solidworks to Inventor, I would appreciate hearing about it. We found software to convert from Inventor to Solidworks, but it is not able to go in the reverse direction.

Are you wanting the file to open in Inventor with all the extrusions, revolves etc and parameters available for quick editing? As far as I know this is impossible.

You can use direct edit and add features to it, but you won't get the same options as just opening in solidworks.

I've heard about feature recognition add-ins but never used them so I don't know how good they are.

Give direct edit a go.. It's really an under-rated tool. Manipulations create parameters and I often use it on imported models. Also never heard of a tool that can covert features between them. I watched an impressive demonstration of geomagic design x for creating features from scan data and perhaps this can be used but I'm sure it's not cheap...

If you already have a base solid, you might try the Feature Recognition app from the Autodesk App Store. For relatively simple models, it can give a pretty good feature tree. For more complex models-- not too likely.

Yeah I actually tried that yesterday and ran the automatic feature recognition with all faces selected. It was a pretty basic feature but only a hole was recognized and nothing else.

If you can post the file here I'd be willing to take a look. In my experience the automatic feature recognition misses a lot, but even manually there are limits to what FR can accomplish (not good for swoopy organic shapes, lofts, etc.).
