It's because it's impossible to flatten. Your inner flanges would all hit each other if you flattened it.

Inventor doesn't calculate clashes until you try to flatten.

thank James appreciate the reply i was just wondering if there was some kind of method obviously the flanges would have have to be short enough not to clash

No because you physically can't make it.

You'd have to make it in two sections and weld them together.

Probably the picture frame with the lower flanges on and then make the top piece as one folded ring that you weld onto the picture frame.

Either that, or you make the inside flanges on the front and rear edges narrower so that when you unfold it there's space for it to go. You'd have to shorten all the top ones as well.

You can't even split this in half and do it that way. What are you making this for?

If you were going to make this and wanted to do as much from one sheet as you could, you would just weld on the two internal end flanges after folding. You could still do all the modelling in this part as a multibody.

Hi! You can edit the Flange and override each bend. Change the extent type to Offset to avoid the collision.

Many thanks!

Here's your 2016 format file with two Unfold-Cut-Refold sequences to produce a "flat patternable" model. Just another possible solution.
