roughly 2 months ago i had to reinstall windows and 3ds max due to a hard drive crash. in a couple of days im getting new parts for my computer. which means wiping the drive again and doing a full instal of windows 10. since i just activated max ( and few others) in the past 2 months will there be any problems activating them again once i rebuild my computer? I do have Max and Maya on my laptop to do work away from home. but i also need them on my desktop at home.

@Anonymous

First question.. When you say you do work away from home, you just mean you are working on school stuff away from your home and not actually performing commercial project (money making) work using your student license?

You may run into an issue since you already have the installation on 2 devices.. Students are only allowed this..

A couple of things you can do..

1. In your Windows menu/Autodesk section you should see a license transfer utility. When you are ready to wipe your hard drive, use that utility to transfer your license activation/information to the Autodesk cloud/server using your Autodesk Accout/student credentials.. Then install the application on the new hard drive and activate using that license. The activation will tell you that he sees that information and ask if you want to use it. However this utility is flaky and doesn't work all the time.. Meaning you may not get the license transferred or its stuck in space/time..

2. Just install and activate on the new hard drive and see if you can activate it without issues. If you do run into an issue you can either contact the Autodesk Educational Support Team or

@Anonymous

Network rendering for your job or school stuff?

If you are using your student license on your laptop for anything related to your actual (paying) job.. You and your company can be fined. If that's the case and you saved files for your company using your student license, you have encrypted a code in those files now and if your company is ever audited by Autodesk then they could be in a lot of trouble.. This is a warning.. If this is not case, then don't worry about it. If it is the case, then you better figure out what documents were modified by your student license and redo them entirely again using a commercial license.

you misunderstand. im not doing work for a company. yes im aware of the restrictions of having a student copy. work is just what i call it. im using the software to learn how to use it. im not making profit.
