Hello @curtis.cowgill,

Try checking the "Read me" file for this update to check you are installing the right update for this version of Revit. http://up.autodesk.com/2017/RVT/Autodesk_Revit_2017_2_1_Readme.htm

Also, if this is an account managed by an Administrator I would contact them to make sure they have assigned you under the "User" tab to receive updates with "Assign All" checked.

Let us know how it turns out.

The Modify Setup dialog is related to the patch wrapper, which is used to chain together the installations of the Revit update as well as updates to Collaboration, Personal Accelerator, Dynamo Core, and Dynamo Revit. The problem is that the update still considers itself installed and therefore it blocks attempt to reinstall the update. This stems from patch wrapper registry entries that are not removed when Revit is uninstalled. While I could point you to the specific registry entries, the easiest way is to click the Uninstall button in the Modify Setup dialog. This automatically deletes the unwanted registry entries and the next time you run the Revit 2017.2.1 Update, it should proceed with the installation as expected.

Further to this issue....I'm receiving the same error and have followed all the noted steps and procedures. After uninstalling /reinstalling Revit 2017 I'm only able to apply the 2017.1 update and the SP2 update. Prior to uninstalling my version of Revit was 2017.2. The desktop app indicates that I need to update to 2017.2.1 and when I update it suggests that the update was successful but when I open Revit my version is still 2017.1

The behavior you are reporting is consistent with Windows thinking the update is already installed.

Your WIndows Installer is hosed, no amount of manual uninstalls is going to fix this: see the time post #9 about removing ALL (not just Revit as suggested) Autodesk software from your PC PLUS running the fix from Microsoft.

Actually if you want my personal opinion (note I'm just a goober that uses software, I'm not "autodesk"), reformat your PC, reinstall your OS, fully update it and start over with all of your software. The reason for your initial reinstall yesterday morning was probably more dire than initially diagnosed.

BTW: get rid of the "desktop app": that remains the most useless tool offered by Autodesk in a very long time.

Yesterday, I installed Revit 2017 on a Windows 10 & applied the update all from the Autodesk Account.

I would try a uninstall of just Revit 2017 & grab the downloads from your Autodesk Account. Then try the process all over again.

Please let us know how it goes.

Done all this, more than once, with same results. Since doing this again is time consuming and most likely not going to be successful I'm going to ignore the update at this time

I am a local admin on my computer and I do have full access to all folders. I tried uninstalling Revit yesterday and then I tried using the Microsoft fixit tool to make sure it was completely removed but after I uninstalled Revit, it didn't show up in fixit. I reinstalled and tried to update again with the same result.

Curtis

I'm not sure why the patch wrapper uninstall is not behaving as expected for you. My next suggestion would be to delete the following registry key and then see if the update can be applied successfully: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{5c9a9e68-bc8b-4bf6-9641-0c53896c8c14}.

Michael

I'm not really sure what happen in your scenario but I believe the problem may stem from the installation of SP2 after the installation of the 2017.1 update. You might want to try deleting the registry key I referenced above and see if that helps in your scenario. If not, you may me in a position where you will have to uninstall and reinstall Revit and then apply the 2017.2.1 update.

We have a winner! Thank you Tony that fixed the problem. After I deleted that registry key I rebooted my computer, redownloaded the update from manage.autodesk.com and it worked!
