3DS Max 2018 will not open or show any signs of launching

So I've just recently gotten the month long trial of 3DS Max and I've installed it via the Autodesk Desktop App.After the install, clicking launch will cause the cursor to momentarily switch to the loading cursor, and after a few seconds, switch back. No windows open, nothing. The app simply won't launch.

I imagine this is a bot, but in the event that it isn't, none of the solutions given there seem to have solved my issue.

No, it doesn't appear in task manager when i attempt to launch it, there doesn't seem to be a process for it either.

I have all the way up until 4.0 installed.

Depending on your OS you probably need to upgrade it

at least to 4.5 if not 4.6.2

I've just updated my .NET and now the splash screen does open, but only for like a split second, still nothing in the task manager.

I am experiencing exactly same issue. Splash shows up for split second and that is it.

Happens on 3ds max 2017 and 2018.

I am running on windows 10, from regedit i found out i have .Net Framework version 4.7.02046. I am not able to uninstall latest .Net framework and reinstalling windows is not in question.

I also tried clean reinstall and the issue is the same.

Please make sure to review this post Windows 7, 8.1, 10 Updates | Microsoft .NET Framework.

1. Depending on the OS you will uninstall .NET Framework 4.7 by itself or uninstall the update altogether.

2. Then, install the .NET Framework required to run the software.

.NET Framework 4.6.2 for 3ds Max 2017

.NET Framework 4.0 & .NET Framework 4.6.2 for 3ds Max 2018

Also, review the system requirements, check the Visual C ++ to download for your Operating System : SDK Requirements

I followed link you've provided. I have windows 10 home 64-bit and the link suggests in that case to remove KB3186568. But i don't have it installed.

I've attached mine installed updates in attachments.

Do i overlook something or is there some other way?

I also tried "Turn Windows features on or off" with no success ..

Edit: 3ds Max 2017 worked before so i suppose my system meets hardware and software requirements.

I see you have the Windows 10 Creators 1703 (KB4022405) update installed.

Please try uninstalling this update
Make sure you install the proper .NET Framework.

.NET Framework 4.6.2 for 3ds Max 2017

.NET Framework 4.0 & .NET Framework 4.6.2 for 3ds Max 2018

3. Then, Check/Edit the registry to run the proper .NET version

4. You can try to run the product or uninstall/reinstall the product after fixing these issues

I can't uninstall Windows 10 Creators 1703 (KB4022405), when i right-click there is no context menu. Looks like it is forbidden by Microsoft.

I tried to use restore point but it looks like it is too late. Please see attached picture of my System Restore Dialog.

Any other hotfix or patch comming?

Let's try the steps without uninstalling the update then, try installing the .NET Framework below.

1. Install the corresponding .NET Framework for 3ds Max 2017

.NET Framework 4.6.2 for 3ds Max 2017 OR
.NET Framework 4.0 & .NET Framework 4.6.2 for 3ds Max 2018

2. Edit the registry to change the system's .NET version 4.6.2

- I am not able to install previous versions of .Net Framework, please see attached picture

2 Edit the registry to change the system's .NET version 4.6.2

- I managed to change the value, i had to add Full Permissions for myself

- I have tried 4.5 value, .Net 4.6.2 installer failed, 3ds MAX didn't start

- I have also tried 4.6.2 value with same results

- I did the reister change for all 4 register directories:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Client

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Client\1033

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full\1033

I doesn't look like that the register change helped in any way ..

Any other ideas I could try? Can I send you any log or something else?

Here is some Microsoft information on how to disable Defenders on a Windows 10 on the Defender Security Center app in my post: Windows 10 Creators Update & Defender. Try that to see if that is the real issue. Also try to find out from Microsoft how you can remove this update.
