Introducing the desktop app was a great move but the only problem is that our users don't have admin rights to install any updates and have been told we can grant users to run just this app with admin rights . I was wondering if the community can share how they now deploying SP, enfacements and hot fixes?

@Anonymous

The Autodesk Desktop Application is bloatware and should never be used or relied on..

Next just because there's an update there, doesn't mean it needs to be installed. Yes this is not something that Autodesk would say but from experience why break something that isn't broken (right @TravisNave). If the update fixes an issue that the users are experiencing, then apply it. If its a mid-year release or a benefit that's link to your subscription, install it if you want too.

In the end I always suggest that you should test these updates and make sure it works and meets your needs.. Too many times people upgrade just because its there and then regret it (and complain about it).. I always question why would you do this in a production type of environment. Why take the risk without testing.. Yeah sometimes you don't have the time to do this or there's no person who can perform the test, but in my opinion you should be taking the time to do this. You may end up wasting more time if you did update and it caused issues. Okay my 2 cents..

Not sure if that helps or not...

I can see logic in this but what about critical patches? I had users contacting me that they getting messages the pop ups to install critical updates? Why are those critical?

I've never used the application so can't testing it and as far as I tell the main concern for the users is the performance of the app but this is mainly due to their hardware or network issues.

Adds on can still be deployed through network deployment rights?

@Anonymous

In the past (a few years ago).. I had what was called a crucial/security hot fix for an Autodesk application.. I applied it and guess what it broke a workflow in the application.. Granted I was testing and discovered it while planning for an upcoming meeting/presentation..

Just because it says crucial or the user say its crucial.. Is it crucial at your end? Have the end users shown you the exact message?

Thanks. I guess once a year or every other year we will just update the application and will deal with issues when users complain Thank you again.
