Getting ready to update from Product Design Suite Premium 2016 to 2018.

We have 2 standalone seats, with 2 serial numbers.

When authorizing …….Does it matter which serial number we use on mine or my colleague's machines? In other words, do the serial numbers need to coincide with the previous installation of 2016 serial numbers? Or is it like starting from scratch and doesn’t matter which serial number we use for either machine/installation.

Also on the installation itself , I shouldn’t need to uninstall anything if I remember correctly? Just hit “Install Now” in the download method and let 2018 overwrite 2016?

It's start from scratch, from the point of the view of the software. It's only tied to the old serial from the Autodesk back end. So it doesn't matter which one you use to install and activate. Just keep your own records internally for auditing purposes. You'll be fine.

Good Luck!

Hello @Anonymous,

Just wanted to add to this, since you are going from 2016 to 2018 you will need to uninstall it & remove the licensing data information folders explained here: License Manager Tool | Change License Type or Serial Number to activate the 2016 version of the Suite.

You will need to install the 2018 versions of the product suite.

I do not recommend using a serial number for a product not assigned to your Autodesk Account this can present issues when referencing the product with your account & product sign in.

Thank you for posting this, it is a great subject.

Please "Accept As Solution" if a reply has helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.

Just to be clear Natasha,

are you saying we need to uninstall the entire Product Design Suite 2016 and License Manager because we are going from 2016 to 2018 or just the License Manager?

Also, you say we need to do this in order to activate 2016 version of the suite.....I assume you meant 2018 as that is what we are trying to install

Thanks for your help

Hello @Rblaque,

If you plan to only use the 2018 version then you need to install, then activate with each user's device & credentials.

You do not need to uninstall the license manager. Do you have stand-alone or network licensing? If you have network licensing you need to include or generate a new license file that will have the 2018 version, please review Generate a Network License File in Autodesk Account.

Let us know how it goes.

Please "Accept As Solution" if a reply has helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.
