Updates for educational versions of Maya and other software

Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting access to, for instance, Maya 2017 Updates (but Mudbox also). I'm running the original release, because that's what it prompts me to download. When I go to manage.autodesk.com, go to the Management tab, select Maya, and go to the "Updates & Add-ons" tab, there is nothing but a couple of Autodesk License Service updates, and the version it presents me on the left is the non-updated original release. The original releases are usually pretty buggy, so I'd really like to get the latest updated version. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

Hello @JosiahErikson2960,

I see you have a perpetual license for Maya 2017, if you do not have a maintenance plan you do not have access to updates, technical product support, flexible license rights, and access to select cloud services.

Are you aware that educational institutions have access to free software & network licensing?

Which updates are you trying to install? For what version of Maya and Mudbox?

You can "Add Filter" the search for the update & also click "View Details" to review the Read Me file to review the system requirements for the updates.

That is where I'm looking. Those updates don't show up for me in that tab - I assumed they should but they don't. I'm looking for the updates for Maya and Mudbox 2017. I'm assuming it's something about my licenses being Educational that makes them not show up there? I don't know. Thanks for your time.

Here's a screencast showing the same thing - no updates available. I'm not trying to get access to updates for my perpetual version, I'm trying to get access to updates to my educational network license (yes I'm aware of this program and am taking advantage - it's wonderful!), as this screencast shows.

To recap: I'm trying to get updates for Maya 2017, which I got through the free educational licensing program, and the updates don't show up where they're supposed to, as demonstrated above. Thanks in advance.

Well I was able to get to it through my old Education Master Suite license, which is going to expire in 1 day. Glad I got it now! 🙂

I see - so education licenses no longer have access to updates? That's a real problem for educational institutions. As you can see at the top of this screenshot, my old educational license (which expires in 1 day) had access to updates, and I was able to download the update through that one. The one at the bottom of this screenshot shows up as "educational perpetual" and is what we now seem to have access to - so educational institutions are no longer supposed to get updates? This is a total bummer if so - the initial releases tend to be very buggy!

Thanks for your time - if this is the case, it's obviously not your fault, but I'd love to register a... criticism ... to the powers that be. This will significantly negatively impact the impression that students and educators have of your products and push us towards alternatives. On the other hand, I appreciate that we get anything at all, so there's that.

I think this is a misunderstanding.

I have reviewed your Autodesk Account and see that your "student" version of Maya 2017 has the latest updates under "Updates & Add-ons".

Your "education perpetual" licenses of Maya 2017 on the other hand, if you do not have a subscription maintenance plan you will not have access to the updates or if the update was released after your maintenance plan expired or was canceled. If you believe this is an error, then please contact Account Management so they can take a look at your contract.
