Removable Laptop Licensing

To this point my license server is only handling stationary workstations.

However, I have now been asked to allow a license to be used on a laptop that is networked when at the office but can also travel at times.

Can this work without "checking out" a license when the individual is away from their desk?

Does the license hold for a certain amount of time before checking for the server or must it been connect whenever the software is launched.

I really would like to avoid the checking out of a license method if I can.

You have 2 options..

Borrow (or check out a license). If you go the borrow route, I strongly suggest you implement an option file and control how long the borrow can occur.

VPN into your network and use a license that way. Keep in mind some people have had issues with this due to settings/configuration.

Or, I assume, I could install without allowing a license to be "borrowed" and then the ADSK software would only work when on our network.

Yes that's correct. If the machine can't see (ping) the license server and you're not borrowing one.. The software will not work at all.
