Hi,

I can close and open max fine, but there are times when I have multiple instances of max open and if one freezes I need to force quit it via task manager.

However in my task manager every instance of max looks like my screen shot i sent, with no file name so I do not know which max I am force quitting when needed.

Before I installed 2018 it used to look like this in the task manager with the file name. see image below taken from a different pc without the issue

Thanks

Hi, thanks Frederik,

I guess this can be a work around for now if It works, (will test on monday in the office).

I'm just curious though why we have 14 computers in the office all with max 2018 but 2 of them display max in the task manager in this problematic way. All the other computers show it with the file name and no chromium processes attached to it. This was always how it had displayed for me through the last 5 years of using max until now.

Thanks again.

Hello @Anonymous,

In many cases the A360 app can be associated with this but it may be a 3rd party application that is blocking the access that Chromium needs to run during a program session.

Please try to review & conduct the following:

Disable the Welcome Screen options for each product. -- For example, in 3ds Max go to Help > Welcome Screen and in the lower left corner un-check the box to "Show this Welcome Screen at startup".

Add the acwebbrowser.exe *32 application to any Anti-Virus, Malware, Firewall or PC component tools/software as an exception (if applicable).

Log out of A360 Cloud Services (if and when possible).

Switch HELP to local files instead of online help files.

Change User Profiles to Admin (if and when possible).

Disable or manually start the Autodesk Desktop App. You can do this by going to:

Windows Start > Run and type in "services.msc"

Right-click on Autodesk Desktop App Service and select Properties.

Under the General Tab choose a "Startup type" of your choice for this app (i.e. Disabled, Manual, etc.)

Please “Accept As Solution” if a reply or replies have helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.

hi natashal,

I've tried all that mentioned and it still persists. I have even uninstalled cloud 360 and the autodesk desktop app.

I tried using process explorer as frederik suggested but it still displays the same.

This is a shame because it makes the task manager useless when needing to force quit a specific max (if max freezes) file because I don't know which one I'm closing. It also means I don't know which max file is using up the most memory/cpu etc.

This is now happening to more computers in the office which makes me believe it is caused by max 2018 and the latest windows 10 update (build 16299) or just one of the two.

Do you have any other suggestions or know whether there will be a fix to this?

Thanks

Hello @rwalker,

Can you please rollback the update on one computer it may be due to Microsoft security updates you mentioned. Also, make sure to temporarily disable your Antivirus, how to here: Disable it in the Windows Defender Security Center app

Are all the computers updated to the latest windows 10 (build 16299)? Have you tried Event Viewer ?

Also, take a look at Task Manager, right-click "Properties" go to the "General" tab. This will let you know what is running the executable & we can find the root cause.

In this example the Autodesk Desktop App is running this executable:

Let us know how you are doing & if the suggestions help you find out the root cause.
