Looks like to me your service is pointing to a UNC path rather than the local file, which is odd. The easiest way to check to see if there is a different license file (which to me seems there is) is to just go to the UNC Path from any computer or from itself. Just use Start > Run

\\srv-vm-egr1\

That share should show up and you can verify if that file exists and if it is a different file/location. I suspect so.

Also, on the first tab of LMTOOLS (Service/License File) make sure you are set to configure using services and that the checkbox to ignore license path variables is checked.

Verify the path to the license file on Config Services and make sure it is pointing to the correct location.

Another anomaly that you might be experiencing is a 32/64-bit mismatch where you might have two different versions of the license manager running, which would prevent you from seeing the other configured service -- but you might be picking up the status of one or the other.

In the LMTools dialog, when I click on the "Server Status" dialog, it shows at the bottom of the dialog "Using License file \\srv-vm-egr1\Autodesk Network Manager\FMI Merged License.lic". When I click the "Perform Status Enquiry" button, it shows license files on server......Merged FMI 2017 License.lic

Question is, which license file is it using??? I think its using FMI Merged License.lic, but not sure why it it is listing the other one. There are other .lic files in this folder.

Thanks

Under the config service tab, what license file is being listed there? Did you just change it?

Nate,

The \\srv-vm-egr1 share really exists and both the FMI Merged License.lic and Merged FMI 2017 License.lic are located there.

On the Config Services tab, the reason that the path to the file is \\SRV-VM-EGR1\Autodesk Network License Manager\FMI Merged License.lic is because this is a server and not my local machine. If I change the path on the Config Services tab to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Network License Manager\FMI Merged License.lic, it gives me an error that "The license file/license path does not exist where specified.

I guess this is because it is trying to find the file on my local machine and the files are just not there.

When I am running LMTools, I am accessing the share from my local computer rather than using a Remote Desktop Connection to access the server. I just go to \\srv-vm-egr1 in win explorer, browse to the Autodesk Network License Manager folder and click on the lmtools.exe - Shortcut to start the LMTools.

I really think that even though it is saying at the bottom of the dialog that it is using it is using the "FMI Merged License.lic"...... it is really not. Rather it is using the "Merged FMI 2017 License.lic" file because of the number of licenses that we have available. I can trick probably trick LMTools to use the file I want by renaming my "FMI Merged License.lic" to the other, but I would like to understand WHY it is not using the file specified in the Config Services tab.

The best way to determine which license file it is actually using is to run both files through the license parser and compare their content with what you can see in the LMTools server status enquiry.

I'm not an expert at network licensing and there is limited information provided, but from what I can see on the video above, your LMTools isn't set to use services and the path to the license file being used is C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Network License Manager, not srv-vm-engr1\Autodesk Network License Manager, so it seems like there's another LMTools running on YOUR machine that is actually doing the job, the LMTools on the server is just picking up the status.

But that's just my guess - can anyone smarter confirm?

I just went back to the Config Services tab and checked the "Use Services" box. I wont know if this does any good or not until Monday. The server will restart over the weekend.

LM Tools is NOT installed on my local machine. The path, C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Network License Manager is where the LM Tools is installed on the server.
