Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

Its indicated there's another installer in process and your registry is locked. Have you rebooted your machine and tried again?

Interestingly, I was able to successfully install and run in a different Windows user account. There must be something special about my main account that is causing an issue. It looks from the callstack that the installer is trying to create a shortcut. Maybe there is some issue with my user profile folder layout that it doesn't like? I don't suppose there is any way to debug this python script is there?

OK I have a solution. Here is what I did.

1. Install Fusion360 using a different user account. In my case, I created an account called "test", made it an administrator and then installed Fusion360 under that account which worked fine.

2. Copied the entire contents of the Autodesk install folder to my main user account. This folder is under C:\users\test\appdata\local\Autodesk. I copied that whole folder to the same location to my main user account.

3. Edit the contents of FusionLauncher.exe.ini to point to the right place. This file is under c:\users\<name>\appdata\local\autodesk\webdeploy\production\<long string of characters and numbers>\FusionLauncher.exe.ini. I edited this file to point to the Fusion360.exe in my main user account folder rather than the "test" user account that it was copied from. There is a line in the .ini file that starts with "cmd". This is what needs to be edited.

4. Now I can run FusionLauncher.exe at will and Fusion works.

The only downside is I don't have start menu shortcuts.

FYI.

Got the same error while trying to install it a few minutes ago. Temporarily turning off controlled folder access solved it for me. (You get to keep the allowed apps list when you turn it back on - Do turn it back on!)
