extremely slow Autocad 2023 and 2024

I wonder if anyone else has a similar issue. Autocad 2024 (same was happening with 2023) is incredibly slow on my laptop and at times it is literally unusable. No matter what the drawing is, all is lagging and incredibly slow, including dialogue windows, commands, properties pallets keep "redrawing". Same happens to drawings saved on local drive and in cloud.

The laptop is more than capable of handling large sites and projects even in Revit (i9@3.1GHz, 32GB RAM, Rtx30370). I have no issues with any other software, all is flawless. Just Autocad. CPU&RAM are around 50% even with larger drawings and multiple apps, so this cannot be an issue.

As well I have Autocad 2022 with some plugins and this version seems to be faster.

The laptop and external monitor have 4k displays, but I dont see how this would be an issue.

this may be a longshot, but if you have any blocks in your drawing, double click one to open the block editor, and without making any changes to the block, just close the block editor. seems a memory resource issue for me. it works every time. but it may not be Y0UR issue. wouldnt hurt to try it.

1) Reset 2023 and 2024 to remove any content you may have migrated from 2022, see if that solves the problems. 2) Have you installed the 2023.1.3 / 2024.0.1 Updates yet? ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards.

3) Start GRAPHICSCONFIG command in 2023 and 2024: which video card is being used?

4) you might need to Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD 2023-2024: reverting to DirectX11 may be needed.

5) Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables.

6) If still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all of that still fails, let us know. TIA

Is this for AutoCAD or the system as a whole?

thank you sooo much @pendean ... resetting to defaults worked! I tried everything possible, but I had no clue this tool exists. It must had been some setting imported from 2022, maybe something to do with addins. I learned something new today.

I'm having the exact same issue with AutoCAD 2024. Mi laptop is brand new, and its not working AT ALL. I was wondering if it was the laptop or the program. Sims to me like its the 2024 verison. I used to be working with AutoCAD 2022 and had no problem at all.

3) Start GRAPHICSCONFIG command in 2023 is what worked for me. I had to change the 2D Display Settings to "Intermediate Mode". Everything smooth now.

Could be old graphics driver. You may want to try going to graphics manufacturers web site to see if there’s a more current version for you to install and that may allow you to set it back to advanced mode.

Or check the Autodesk certified page. Sometimes the newest driver isn't the best driver and could be needing this change as well.
