We recently converted over from a paid license to educational Maya. We performed the following steps to get this working: did a clean uninstall of both Maya and Arnold, reinstalled Maya 2017 without Arnold selected, applied Maya 2017 update 5, installed the Arnold 2017 version from the Solid Angle website. I have two computers and discovered that if I batch render with Arnold on both machines simultaneously, a watermark appears on one of the render outputs ie, there appears to be provision of one Arnold license only. Where do we get another Educational Arnold license so that I can batch render on two machines simultaneously?

Thanks so much and best wishes,

This is not an educational or student type reason why you can request an educational license. You will be unable to use the free license to create training material. You are not teaching individuals in a school environment in how to use this product and anything created by the product under student or educational license cannot be share publicly outside the scope of a school classroom.

Not that I want to discredit the work you're trying to accomplish to assist cancer patients but these types of animations are not covered under the scope of educational license. You will need to go back to a commercial license to accomplish this. In the end you don't want your non-profit organization to be fined for using educational license when you are not supposed to be.

you would have to apply for this if you qualify:

Nonprofit Organizations

Nonprofit organizations do not typically meet the definition of a “Qualified Educational Institution,” and therefore do not qualify for the free* Educational licenses. Autodesk runs an initiative called the Technology Impact Program that donates software licenses to nonprofits that use design to address epic challenges.

Learn more and apply for a grant at Supporting Nonprofit Innovators.

there are small fees you would have to pay

Hello @maja.divjakW2VMQ,

You do want to be sure you qualify, but if you verified it with Autodesk Edu it should be fine. To render images without a watermark, you would need select an Arnold license from the educational site. What type of role or account do you have set up, an "Educator"?

Hi Natasha,

Thank you for your reply! Yes, we did verify this with an Autodesk technical specialist. I'm from the University of Melbourne, so we fit the bill.

In terms of my account, I'm not sure what I set up originally- I think I went to the free downloads page, set up an account and went from there. Is there some way of checking this? I looked in my account and couldn't see what type it is. Whenever I save in Maya I get a popup saying 'File was created by a Student Version of Maya for personal learning only. If you save the file etc...' Does this tell you what type of account I have?

Thanks so much,

Maja

Hi again Natasha,

I have some more information for you. I did some batch rendering with my two machines, testing whether the second machine to be fired off is the one with the watermark and that is indeed the case. It seems the first machine to be fired off is checking out the original Arnold commercial license we purchased for the paid version of Maya. Even though we did a clean uninstall and reinstall as initially described, it is still somehow finding this. We need to break this connection somehow so the software looks for the educational license on the two machines, not the commercial license. I hope this helps!

Thanks so much and best wishes,
