Example if you currently use AutoCAD 2016, after 3 years of usages your license activation will be finished. So that means you couldn't go back and request the 2016 version again. You would have to request a newer version that students are entitled to. Many think they can request the version they already have (after it expires) and that's not the case.

Hi a quick question,

After a student's 3 year license has expired, are they able to renew it? The reason I ask is that they spend longer than 3 years at secondary school (hopefully) using the software.

Thanks,

Lisa

Yes you can renew, but you can only request newer version. You will never be able to request your existing version.

IN addition you can only renew if you are signed up and attending a qualified education institution https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/education-program/who-can-join/eligibility-edu-institutions

Once you graduate or leave (with no attention of returning), you forfeit the right to have the softare installed and used no matter how much time is left on the 3 year license.

Thanks Mark, I understand that but what happens in in this example:
In 2016 the school has a license for AutoCAD and in 2018 the same school gets a license for Fusion 360. Since 2016 to the present day, students and teachers are creating Autodesk accounts and using the version of AutoCAD and Fusion 360 that they have available to them in school. Say the school renews their license (2019) and downloads the most current software after it's license expires, will the students (who have only just created their accounts in 2019) still be able to use the software with their individual licenses until their license runs out in 3 years (as long as they are still in school)?
Lisa

Leave Fusion 360 out that example or discussion. Fusion 360 is cloud based application and there's no license or version like AutoCAD or Inventor and etc. When the 3 yr educational license expires for Fusion 360 the student or the school goes in and request another 3 year license For all other products, when the educational license expires, the school or students can't request that version again and must request a newer version that will be activate for another 3 years. However at any point, students or schools can request a newer version and get a 3 yr license even if another product/version still has time on the clock...
