To All,

Just wanted to find out if this is true…

It seems as if AutoCAD doesn’t work properly with, or when using a “Borrowed License”.

Let me explain… on 2 (two) occasions I’ve had issues with the computer “Stating” that the Autodesk license on the software was borrowed however, the software would not start up or recognize that the license had been borrowed

(eventhough a dialog box said it had been borrowed). One time I had to re-boot the machine at least 3 times before it realized I could and should be able to use the software on the machine and even then, AutoCAD was very “clunky” or working erratically (kind of like using the software with the old 286, or 386 machines).

My latest issue was the fact that over the weekend, and Monday (10/21/2019) the Autosave function did not work at all. Thankfully no data was loss, and I say data because I am using AutoCAD in a BIM capacity. Upon rechecking some files before uploading to the BIM site, I went to check some older versions of my 3D model(s) and found out that none of my *.BAK file were save or being recorded, and also that the “AutoSAVE” was not working since Friday (10/18/2019).

Now, keep in mind, I did not lose any files, or data & naturally I went back to check my settings which have not been changed or corrupted by some software update, (which has happened with Windows10 or my own IT group removing files or programs that they do not recognize or deemed “unsafe”).

Just wanted to find out if there is any valid reason for this to happen or perhaps, if we may have missed an

update / hotfix through Autodesk?

As usual thanks in advance for any information or help with this issue.

Regards,

Milt (a.k.a Drafter1981)

AutoSave Not Working

I believe 2018.1.2 is the latest update available for this version, do you have this installed?

@Milt-Fitz wrote:

on 2 (two) occasions I’ve had issues with the computer “Stating” that the Autodesk license on the software was borrowed however, the software would not start up or recognize that the license had been borrowed

(eventhough a dialog box said it had been borrowed).

Would it not start up at all or would it start up with an error message? What error?

@Milt-Fitz wrote:

One time I had to re-boot the machine at least 3 times before it realized I could and should be able to use the software on the machine and even then, AutoCAD was very “clunky” or working erratically (kind of like using the software with the old 286, or 386 machines).

Could you provide an example? What was not working/working erratically? Was it lagging?

THe autosave issue I believe would not be related to license borrowing at all... see this article and let me know if changing the interval helps.

Just an FYI....

This is still an on-going issue (Clunky Autodesk Software) when borrowing a license...

We are 3 to 4 months into a "lockdown" and I am still having the same issues. I definitely can say it not the job site anymore since I've been working from home about 80% of the time. Today is one of those days I'm in the office to "Borrow" licenses for another month but, (as I've said before), I don't understand why with a borrowed license would the Autodesk software bog down the computer...???

Under the circumstances I can understand why it takes long to upload a file to the cloud or BIM360, etc, etc... That being said, if I'm just working locally from home, AutoCAD shouldn't be "Clunky" at all, in fact, it probably should be working better... but it doesn't.

Anyway, as usual, any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Milt
