Can't install developertools.msi even though Visual Studio installed

I've tried several times over the past few years to get the developertools.msi to install, but it always fails because it says it can't find Microsoft Visual Studio. But I have several versions of it installed, so I can't understand why that is.

I have Visual Studio 2017 & 2019, and Visual Studio Code installed, but for some reason it doesn't know they are installed.

I've seen other with similar problems, but haven't seen any solutions that work for me.

Can any of the Autodesk folks that are around out there today tell me how to fix this problem?

I'm currently on Windows 7 Pro 64bit, but updating to a new computer very soon.

Inventor Professional 2020.2.2 (and other Autodesk stuff, all up do date)

I understand you need developertools.msi, but Visual Studio is not being recognized on your device.

I have provided some steps for you to take below:

Reinstall or repair Visual Studio
Download the latest Inventor (Professional) installer to use the developertools.msi from that installer.

Note: For the developertools.msi from Autodesk Inventor Versions 2020 download, extract and use the developertools.msi from the Inventor 2019 Installer.

This sounds like what I've gone through before. Uninstall stuff, then reinstall stuff, then still doesn't work, then I have to go back through all my preferences, setting, & customizations again.

Seems like I've heard that Inventor 2020 can't communicate with Visual Studio 2019.

Is that true?

Do I have to uninstall my Visual Studio 2019, yet again, then find an older version to install, just so I can get it to work with Inventor 2020? Why can't Autodesk just send us an updated installer or a Patch we can install that works with the latest version of Visual Studio, so we don't have to go through all this uninstall & reinstall headache?

Are you saying that I now have to download the Inventor 2019 version somehow, then install it, just to get this developertools.msi file, so I can use that version to work with Inventor 2020, because the version that came with it doesn't work?

Does it have to be a "Paid" version of Visual Studio?

You are trying to locate the developertools.msi for Autodesk Inventor Version 2020, correct?

Reinstall or repair Visual Studio
Download, extract and use the developertools.msi from the Inventor 2019 Installer, for Autodesk Inventor Versions 2020

No. I'm not looking for that developertools.msi file. I've had that all along.

It just won't let me install it, because it can't find Visual Studio.

I totally uninstalled my Visual Studio 2017 and Visual Studio 2019.

Restarted.

Then redownloaded a fresh copy of Visual Studio Community 2019, and installed it.

The problem remains.

The developertools.msi fails to install, because it can't find a version of Visual Studio.

Just tried:

Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit English
Installed Visual Studio 2017 Community.
Installed Autodesk Inventor 2020 SP2.2.
Installed developertools.msi.

And worked.

Can you please check what value have the registry key:

Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\SxS\VS7

Key: 15.0
