Hi Mark,

This is school provided laptop.

In the error message, it has two options: "Specify the license Server System" and "Specify the License File"

Obviously, the first option is invalid unless he connects to the network. So, I am wondering, with the second option: "Specify the license file". If I copy and send him the license file that we're currently using on our license server, would that break the licenses on the server and/or is that even allow in autodesk license agreements?

Thank you,

Nhan

Hi guys,

First of, I realize that there are a whole bunch of different posts regarding borrowing license questions and I am still combing through them to see if I can find an answer, but I am in a time crunch trying to responding to a crap load of tickets for distance learning due to the Coronavirus.

We have network licenses, and from the instructions I found on youtube, I can borrow the license for the all the Autodesk applications from the lab computers by clicking on the drop down error next to the person symbol and select manage license. We don't have vpn but we use "DirectAccess" to access shared resources on the network, and the user wants to borrow license but not able to, I am asking the user to send me the error message so I can see exactly what the issue is. While I wait, in case the issue network access using DirectAccess, is there anyway that the user (from the Autodesk in his laptop) or myself ( I can access the license server), can do to assign borrow license to him while he's at home and not connected to the campus's network?

I hope this makes sense, please let me know if you have any questions and thank you very much for your help.

Thank you,

Nhan

Students first are not allowed to use school provided license on their own machine. So is this laptop school provided or owned by the student.

In the end to borrow a license, the end user must have access to that infrastructure and the ability to communicate (ping) that license server. However when remote the end user may need the flexlm timeout to give more time for the license to be obtained and borrowed https://synergiscadblog.com/2020/03/19/working-from-home-with-autodesk-vpn/

Sending them the license file will do no good. Its written for the mac address of your license server. But those options have nothing to do with someone having a copy of the licnese file on their machine.

Right! I forgot about the mac address... ok, looks like he needs to come back to the campus and connect to the network to complete the borrowing process then. Thanks again for your help!
