Good day.

I am IT support for an engineering company.

The company has multiple sites country wide with about 5 Inventor users.

We want to build one workstation for all 5 users to work on remotely.

I tested VMware-Workstation but it doesn't seem to incorporate the graphics card of the system on the VM, and the user interface is very slow. (Note, I have not installed Inventor on the VM yet, this was all tested using benchmark tests)

Are there other solutions to have multiple users using a remote workstation at the same time (With single user licences)?

Regards.

LAB.

Hi @Anonymous,

If you don't need the physical machine then Frame is pretty good option to run Inventor remotely.

Have you looked at: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/simplecontent/content/virtualization-best-practices-and-tips-for-inventor.html which depending on which version of Inventor you run has atleast basic compatibility on Citrix.

Hi @leowarren34 .

Thanks for the feedback.

The plan is to work with thinstuff with Rohos as 2step authenticator.

But the problem is not the remote login, my main concern lies with the virtual machines on the workstation and whether VMware will work to the full potential of the hardware of the workstation.

Regards.

LAB

I am looking for persons to share experience with Inventor running in VMs.

Regarding your question, whether single user lic. will work,
my Lic. supplier was claiming, when I was inquiring the system, that VM and single user licences are not compatible.

Since view days I have 16 VM Clients working, used in the office or from home.
The Setup:

Dell CPU

Nvidea Tesla GPU P40

Win10 + Inventor 19 Build 136. Release 2019.0.2

VMware Horizon Clients

3DConnexion 3D and 2D Products

Licence Multiuser via Lic.Server

My expirience is, that it is working well with some minor issues. From my point of view, their are no major issues.
The issue I am facing is, that I can´t find the logic between the different grafic/response performance with different assemblys and different application settings. The only knowledge I gained so far is, that their is a relation,
but I would like to understand which functions/ files or settings are causing them.

1)

We are dealing with rather small assembly < 600 uique parts.
Using the function "cross section view" a *.iam with 531 unique parts is performing better then a *. iam with 365 unique parts.

2)

Furthermore I can´t see direct a relation by enabling and disabling application options.
But when I import different sets of application options from my 16 engineers the performance is quit different.

I hope you find this experience helpful. Maybe someone has a hint how to move on.

Best practice from Autodesk:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/simplecontent/content/virtualization-best-practices-and-tips-for-inventor.html
