Original Problem- Keys/buttons would decide on their own to do something they're not suppose to. Example, LMB would open a hotbox menu normally opened by pressing Ctrl+Shift+RMB. Sometimes these things would go away on their own, other times I had to restart Maya. Then the problem will come back. This Problem Usually happened when I was using the rotate tool, the LMB wats to do its own thing, and even happened when clicking in dead space.

Next Problem- I went into the Autodesk app to see if there's an update. There's an update and I click update. I'm being told Maya 2020 is being installed. to hopefully avoid problems I installed on a different HDD. Installed fine, I open that Maya, and the Original problem is back. I altered nothing, it has the default hotkeys. I was Advised to go to the Preference Folder, rename it, then open Maya to see if that solves the original problem. I wasn't using the app for more than a few seconds until I was prompted about a Maya update. I close Maya and click update in the Autodesk app. I'm told there's missing components. the Autodesk app wants to download Maya again. I'm unable to update.

Original problem, buttons doing their own thing.

Next Problem, unable to update.

Hello @Anonymous,

I am sorry to hear that.

Based on the information you provided it seems you had a corrupt download & install of Maya 2020.

Please perform the steps below to help resolve the issue:

Before downloading & installing review the system requirements for the software & the certified graphics card drivers

Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the previous installation & use the MSfixitTool to complete it

Reboot the computer, make sure apps are not auto running in the background

Log in as Administrator (check your permissions, full control) or create a new profile

Make sure you have an uninterrupted high-speed connection to the internet & try adjusting your LAN & proxy settings etc.

Use the Browser Download Method in your Autodesk Account or via the AVA | Autodesk Virtual Agent (download all the parts)

Corrupted files being so rare when I download Maya, update or new version, I keep forgetting it's possible.

Following your directions, I now know how to get to temp files. Deleting those has certainly helped. I came across a folder or two from a previous version of Maya and removed it.

Your directions saved me hours of using bandaid solutions. Thank You again, Ma'am.
