Can't launch Revit 2021 (Revit could not load IntflFC.dll)

Hello everyone,

I'm a student and tried downloading Revit 2021 for a project, everything went well with the download but I can't open Revit 2021, this error pops up.

I have tried uninstalling completely Revit 2021, went through browser installation, rebooted several times, updated Windows 10, uninstalled my C++ and DirectX components and re-installed them, cleaned my computer with an anti-virus scan but neither of these work.

If anyone can help me I would be very happy to hear any solutions.

Thanks for the fast reply, unfortunately I still get the same error even when rebooting after putting the file in the same path

The problem is, that "IntfIFC.dll", depends on a lot of other files. To load, all these files should be also available:

It is easier if you post your install log files,, then we can take a look and may be find the problem.

Hi William,

I feel your pain, I had received this error out of nowhere and struggled to find a solution.

I managed to solve this issue by doing the following;

- Go to your Start menu and Search for 'Control Panel'

- Then once you're in that window, on the top right area where another Search bar is, type 'Add or Remove Programs'

- and then Select 'Add or remove programs'. (image below)

- Once you're in that menu, Uninstall all 'Microsoft Visual C++' that you see in your menu.

(for me, this was my list and I uninstalled all the ones outlined within the rectangle below)

- Once you've uninstalled those items, then within the same menu, go and Uninstall all Revit Autodesk based products found on your System. I uninstalled AutoCAD just to be sure.

(I also had Revit 2020 and 2021 on my system)

This step is basically to purge any Revit associated items in preparation for the next few steps.

- Once you've uninstalled all items mentioned above, Restart your computer/laptop to allow your system to refresh itself.

- After restarted, you can then do a fresh Reinstall of Revit and once finished, it should be able to load without any errors. (for me it did anyway, I apologise if it doesn't).

The reason I think this error occurs is because the Microsoft C++ files get altered. I'm not sure what exactly alters it, but in my circumstance, it's because I play games on my laptop and the games require me to install new Microsoft C++ files as part of the games installation process. So I can only assume that when I had installed the new C++ files, it must have altered the original ones and hence lead to the error from Revit.

Chosen answer is brute force…

My answer:

1. Install Dependencies : https://github.com/lucasg/Dependencies

2. Open `IntfIFC.dll` in Dependencies and see what dependency do not load

3. Search on internet to find what package provides this dll

In my case it was `mfc140u.dll` or underlying dependencies. I found this topic https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install-wininstalls/mfc140udll-missing-from-my-computer/0c173a7b-7663-4ea9-9f74-ed9dc7ce80f0. I removed and reinstall VC++ Redistribuable (I think the faulty one was 2010 but maybe 2012 or 2013).

Far quicker than reinstalling Autodesk Products !

Hi.

I managed to fix this and another strange Autodesk problem (3ds Max saying ".NET runtime exception: Could not load file or assembly..."), using one command line:

WMIC Product Where "Name Like '%Visual C++%'" Call Reinstall

What this does is use WMI to search for installed products called *Visual C++*, and then re-install them.

So you just open an administrative Command Prompt, type or paste that line in, and press Enter.

I've used it a few times, and it seems to fix a lot of strange .NET Framework and Visual C++ errors. It's never caused me any problems.

I had been running Revit (2021) for months and suddenly this error appeared. Putting this line in the command prompt fixed it. Thanks!

Getting the tip from 22573825's post (thanks!), I got the idea to try to repair Visual C++ installations on my computer and it worked (for me at least). So all you have to do is to open Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features and then right-click "Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64)":

After that select "Change":

And finally, click on "Repair":

I did that (quite fast procedure) for both Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable instances in my PC (x86 and x64) and then Revit 2021 launched without problem.

thank you! This worked for me and was far simpler than all the prior suggestions. 2 minutes... solved, for me at least, hopefully for others. I just wish Autodesk would link to the most-liked answer at the top of the thread!
