HSMWorks 2021 can't find the network license server

We were using Solidworks 2018 with HSMWorks 2018. Everything was fine.

Now, after ugrading Solidworks to 2020 and HSMWorks to 2021, HSMWorks can't find the license server.

I've tried it with and without the domain.

provide more info

what is the exact error your getting?

did you generate a new license file for 2021?

did you also upgrade your license manager to 11.16.2?

I don't have the detailed error message, I'm still waiting to get access to the machine again. (It's in a remote location)

I've got 2 other users that are using HSM Works - 1 using 2020 and the other using 2021 - no problems.

More info...I was able to remote into the other machine.

Now when I start Solidworks, it only gives me an activation screen. Somewhere, somehow, it lost the 'network license' option, which is the screen

I do have 2 serial numbers, but neither of them activates.

(oh, and yes, my licensing program is 11.16.2.0 build 242433 x64_n6)

If it's a network license, it won't activate with a serial number. I suggest you reset license information on the client computer, make sure LMTOOLS on the server is on the latest version and that it's configured with an up-to-date license file (check that the Server Status Enquiry reports 2020 and 2021 licenses available and no incompatibility errors). If you run into any problems, please post screenshots or describe them in detail so we can help.

Thanks for the input.

I did confirm that I'm running the latest version of LMTools.

I did find a few things that aren't working correctly.

First is that the server status doesn't return anything about 2021 - 2016 through 2020 - but no 2021 mentions.

Second,

The button "FlexNet Licensing Service Details" returns a message that the service isn't running on this computer.

'Services' shows that it is running.

Also, on the System Settings tab, the TMP_ID1 field says "FNLS does not appear to be running".

This is the issue then. Your license file does not include the 2021 entitlement so it won't enable you to run it. Generate a new license file and configure it on LMTOOLS.

The other things you can disregard, they are not relevant to Autodesk.

When starting Solidworks, there is a primary Solidworks splash screen where it show what it's doing as it's starting up.

When it gets to loading HSMWorks, a different screen pops up asking about how the product is to be licensed. This first screen gave an option of using a code or using network licensing. After selecting the network license option, it would ask for the license server. The other screen is where it asks if you want to run the product for a 30 day trial or enter a code to validate the license.

(sorry, I do not currently have access to the computer so I can't get screen shots )

Looks like I need to get Autodesk to fix something.

When I try to get a license, I only see HSM Premium 2018

If I filter for 2021, I see that I can download HSMworks 2021 and it gives me details that it's a network license type but it also gives me a serial / key number for each year, 2019, 2020, and 2021.

This is starting to....I don't know what to do anymore.

On the link I sent you there is a screenshot showing how to get to the "generate license" option. Are you not seeing that on your account? Or do you mean when you get there, you can only choose 2018?

It could be an issue with your account or the license. Your best course of action will indeed be contacting Autodesk support. Good luck and let us know!

I contacted Autodesk support. It appears that the HSM Works 2018 that I see is a perpetual license. (I didn't think perpetual HSM licenses were a thing)

Anyway the HSMWorks 2021 license is listed inside the Product Design and Manufacturing Collection.

I now have a license that should work. (I'll know for sure later today when I finally get a chance to log onto the remote workstation.)

you said above you have 1 user using 2021 if your license file doesn’t contain 2021

how are they getting a 2021 license?

I don't really understand this. When I used the license parser through Autodesk, 2021 was listed. When I did the query within LMTools, it didn't show any 2021.

Either way, it seems to be working.

the parser just reads the license file it does not verify the contents of the file

no clue what your seeing in the license manager
