2021 products - can't you build admin deployments anylonger?

I've downloaded Revit 2021... but it appears that you cannot any longer build a deployment on a network share.

Can anyone confirm?

That being the case, what it the new way to roll-out installations with any consistency, have to downloading with every installation?

I can't speak for Revit specifically, but AutoCAD 2021 works fine (just like it has for the past decade or so). Now the Civil 3D 2021 deployment creation has a bug in it. I had to build the deployment on a local drive and copy it to our network share and make the necessary file changes. More on that here.

Perhaps Revit 2021 suffers from the same bug?

I used "download now" ... not "Install now" method. Ran install and got License Agreement to click I agree... then clicked Next button. Then advance to ..."Choose were to install." ... for Product. and Content.

I was never offered a chance to build a deployment at all.

What gives?

Many Autodesk products now use an online deployment creation option. The original release of Revit 2021 still supports the legacy offline deployment creation option but the Revit 2021.1 release now uses the online creation option. 3ds Max made this change in their original 2021 release and this documentation may help clarify this change.

so can I create deployment for both Autodesk ID and Network Licensed? (... don't tell me that this is going to short circuit our network license. We have this until 2022 renewal date.)

how to do this? Do you configure the online deployment then download the deployment to our network share?... then run it from there - or run it from on-line location?

The article that you shared covers the legacy process of creating deployments, which was available in the original Revit 2021 release. With the release of Revit 2021.1, a new installer was introduced and the legacy deployment creation process is no longer an option. Unfortunately, it appears that the Revit online documentation has not been updated to reflect this change. In the link provided under point 6 I read this:

'After the deployment is created, these settings cannot be changed.'

Does that mean that we don't have any Create & Modify a deployment anymore?

And if I create a deployment for Network License and just want a new shortcut and ini file that installs a Sign In License from the very same deployment?

We are aware of this limitation and are working on a workflow that will allow existing deployment configurations to be modified online. Until such functionality is available, some basic edits, including license method, can be made to the Deployment.xml file that resides in the image folder. For the license method, you would want to change the ACADSTANDALONENETWORKTYPE value. I believe 2 is the value for user license and 3 is the value for network license.

Is there some documentation to go along with the deployment.xml file so we can know what edits to make? This is important because Standalone isn't an option when creating a network deployment from the Autodesk Account and that's exactly what I need to create.

Just one question, are the dozen or so "Essential <language> Content for Revit 2021" components which are installed by default really "Required for Revit to run without error"?

Or can the app.RVT.xml be edited (as described in Gerry Huot's post above) to stop installing languages we don't need without screwing up Revit?

There are 14 separate RCLEXXX entries in the app.RVT.xml file. Each one is "essential" to launch Revit sessions in the 14 supported languages without errors related to missing template and family files. If there are specific languages that you know will not be used in your office, you could remove those lines to help thin out the installation.

I would be cautious with this approach as it has not been tested but it should not impact basic Revit functionality other than the language restrictions.

I have had good results in placing installation lines for 3rd party products in the BAT file.
