AutoCAD 2025.0.1 - Silent Installation Error

hi there,

in my school i want to install the newest version of autocad for my lab. so i downloaded the newest version of autocad (2025.0.1) and now im trying to make a silent installation. i'm using the command in the bat-file

"Serverpath\AutoCAD\2025.0.1\image\Installer.exe" -i deploy --offline_mode -q -o "Serverpath\AutoCAD\2025.0.1\image\Collection.xml" --installer_version "2.7.0.10"

the logfile shows this error (see attached file):

Eventviewe: Error 5704 cer.msi

after a reboot of the client the installation restarts and get's all installed. so my question is why do i need a reboot? if i manually install the software with the same command i got no error and the installation is fine.

i need a silent script to install the software on more then 100 clients (windows 10 22h2).

The first installation attempt seems to choke on the CER service. After a reboot, it continues the installation with the Material Library and a few lines further in the log, it installs Autodesk CER Service 7.0.1 without issue. Could it be the CER-service is already running when you start the installation? If so, try ending the service before starting the installation.

no the cer service isn't running. it isn't even installed. no other autodesk product is installed.

The "cer.msi" msi installer should create also a msi log file in the %temp% folder. Can you please upload it here.

hi,

the installation is a silent script (cmd) which is launched at the startup (windows server gpo startup).

so i can't find a log file.

The "cer.msi" msi installer should create also a msi log file in the %temp% folder. Can you please upload it here.

I searched my deployments for cer.msi but it's not there? Checked Collection.xml but it's not mentioned either. There is a map CER in the Setup-folder, but no setup program. So I wonder how CER is installed in the first place?

The msi logs are created in the %temp% folder of the user which installs the msi package.

If you use some management tools to install your software / deployments it is possible the this is a "special" user. Sometimes it is the "system" user and then the log files are placed in "C:\Windows\Temp"

How exactly do you run the installer? You mention windows server gpo startup - is this the Domain Startup script?

exactly. we are running a windows 2022 domain. for the autocad deployment we created a specific gpo.

the gpo run's the install.cmd (see attached file).

"computer configuration - policies - windows settings - scripts (startup/shutdown) - startup"

Okay the error from the msi log:

MSI (s) (00:BC) [09:57:20:655]: Note: 1: 1402 2: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer 3: 2

MSI error 1402 means "Could not open key"

The question is now, why he could not open the key at the "1st run" but after a reboot.

I will try with a virtual machine ...

For testing purpose, can you try to make a "reg query" to the following key in your cmd script:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

if that works, then the msi package has a problem, if not, then your environment has a problem.

hi m_latz,

i made a modification into the installation script (reg query before and after the installation).

i started the computer 3x times

client without autocad. installation begins and fails like before.
after a reboot the installation is completed successfully.
after a reboot no more installation is needed.

as you can see from the logfiles before autocad is successfully installed the reg query command doesn't find the indicated key. then it does.

for test purposes i downloaded the 2024 version of autocad. i used the same install.cmd for the 2024 as for the 2025 version (slightly modified for the different version number). autocad 2024 is installed perfectly on the first run. autocad 2025 needs a reboot to complete the installation.

Can you check if there's a cer.msi file among the 2024-installation files? I bet there's none....

To me, the problem seems to be permission-related; either for files or registry. The Startup-script runs under the System account. That should be enough to install just about anything. If the installation fails at first, you would expect it to fail as well on subsequent attempts....

Edit: what if you install cer.msi before running the AutoCAD installation script?

This is a good idea from @Simon_Weel , can you try to "pre-install" explicit the cer.msi from your cmd script.

hi m_lutz and simon_weel,

i modfied my install script to install the "cer.msi" before running the silent installation but it doesn't work.

i you look at the logfiles you see that the msi is installed correctly but the silent installer performs a uninstall (why????). then on the second boot the "cer.msi" got installed again and the silent installation of autocad got finished.

i tried this a couple of times to be sure.
