I've got a weird one - I have 2027 and 2026 on my computer, and even 2025. When I start AutoCAD, either from the shortcut, opening a file from Explorer, or even from the NVIDIA app, the program freezes after a few seconds of opening. I have reinstalled these versions, ensured I am up to date on the OS, and performed a clean installation on my NVIDIA card. (RTX 3080). I also reset everything in AutoCADD to the default. When I did the clan install, AutoCAD worked for one session, then gave up on me. Another weird detail: AutoCAD Maps 2026 works!

I'm attaching this weird detail as well. The program freezes as the Autodesk Assistant dialogue tries to fade out; see the attached picture. I do have another machine that I just put 2027 on, and it seems to operate normally. It doesn't have the same NVIDIA card, but it does have the exact same driver. Revit and other Autodesk products are working just fine.

Any thoughts on what else I should try?

Gone are the days when the Forum is the first place to go after you try everything in house. Autodesk's Generative AI support bot saved the day on this one, there is a problem with a Windows Update:

Uninstall the Windows update
1. Open Settings (press Windows key + I).
2. Go to Windows Update → Update history.
3. Scroll down and click Uninstall updates.
4. In the list, find update KB5083769 (or the most recent update you suspect). Select it and click Uninstall.
5. Follow any prompts to complete the uninstall.

I uninstalled this exact update, and now AutoCAD works again.

Good deal. Thanks. That update was from April 14th, or at least that's what the Windows Update History told me. I had no problem with the freezing, and neither did my workmate, until today. So I had ruled it out. But I uninstalled it and I'm up and working. Thanks again!

this does NOT work if you cannot delete that update. My computer will not allow me to for whatever reason, no matter what I try. It is embarrassing that Autodesk is jumping on this as a "fixed solution" when it doesn't totally work.

Hello everyone. I had the same issue with Map3d 2026. No version worked (2025 or 2027). I removed the update and everything works fine.

Windows keeps trying to install the update, so i guess Autodesk will find a solution to this conflict.

Thanks everyone.

This fix worked for me as you will likely not be able to uninstall the update from Settings - Windows Update etc..
In my case I queried Google AI via Google Chrome - "how to delete a windows security update KB 5083769
Answer "Method 2: Via Command Prompt (Advanced)
Open Search and type cmd.
Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. (if you do not have administrative rights then you will not be able to follow this fix)
Type the following command and press Enter:
wusa /uninstall /kb:5083769.
Restart your computer to apply changes".
ADDITIONALLY - Consider pausing updates for a couple of weeks until MS get their act together as auto update will try and reinstall it almost immediately
Obviously you do all this at your own risk.
