I have a question for you Travis. If I am in my drawing with all of the hatch turned on with all of my drawing visible through the hatch, is it normal for the hatch to turn to a solid causing the images below to disappear when I move my cursor over the hatch? When the cursor stops, the drawing reappears. Curious.

This is a Microsoft Windows error, not an Autodesk error. But you're in luck since I am an IT Administrator.

I would start by doing this:

Open the Windows registry, if you are comfortable doing so.

Start > Run

Regedit

Traverse to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\

Underneath Explorer, find the key called BannerStore. Right-click and rename it to something like BannerStoreBak.

After doing this, reboot. Let me know if you still have that problem.

Good Luck!

Hello,

My messages are telling me it is an autocad error. A dialog box also
appeared to report error, which I sent in. I also received the messages
attached.

When I try to edit text and highlight the feild, all of the text disappears
and you cannot see the text until you hit return and then move the cursor.

I will try your instructions.

Thank you

I need assistance with this issue. I have a presentation tomorrow and needed this corrected. My first message was posted one week ago. My program is glitching. Autocad is apparently trying to write data to the incorrect location or trying to send more data to a location than is allocated to receive and this is causing errors. I need an update sent to fix or direction on how to get this corrected quickly.

Examples of issues:

Periodically, while working in the drawing, all of my hatches will turn to a solid and all transparency is lost, making the drawing disappear. At the same time, diagonal lines will begin running through the hatch (like a glitchy TV screen). The drawing reappears if I go into a layout tab and back into model.

Critical Issue: Random lines in the layout tab that are part of the drawing in model space are missing. (Nothing is frozen or on the wrong layer). I have sent prior messages so, please send direction for how to get this repaired. I have also shared that my computer is running Windows 10 Pro, version 21H1.

See attachments

Many thanks.

Darin,

When I received the instruction from Travis, I did contact my IT person and
he warned me heavily about making any changes in the registry...that making
changes could cause serious damage to the system and it would not be
reversible. So, no I did not move forward with the direction from Darin.

Last night my screen froze and my cursor would not make selections nor
would the typing register. I had to do a forced shut down. I have
deadlines I this has to be fixed.
My IT person did explain that it was windows related but not Windows
problem. The problem was the location where Autocad is sending the
information. Apparently the location is not equipped to receive, so I need
an Autocad fix to get Autocad sending to the correct location in Windows.

Please advise how to get this corrected. My IT person said it should be
more involved than merely renaming a file. I don't want to risk damage to
my computer...

There isn't an AutoCAD fix for this. This is addressed within Windows via the registry and/or command line entries. I'm surprised your IT person wouldn't fix the registry entry, as it's a simple process. I recommend getting a new IT person or go to your nearest Bestbuy to consult with the Geek Squid.

ok, this is what I needed to know. So are you saying that the only fix for
this is what Travis had sent which was renaming something about a store
banner?
I am an IT Network Administrator with 24 years professional experience with
specialization in Autodesk products. That's why I'm an Expert Elite. The
registry change I am proposing is not a permanent or damaging change. It
rebuilds the key on next reboot and can itself be easily reversed if
necessary, though unlikely. Your IT can perform the simple change if you
are not confident trying it. It seems that you are in a time crunch yet
are not willing to troubleshoot advice from experts. I don't really know
what additional help I can provide you on a peer forum. Perhaps you should
open a support ticket with Autodesk or your VAR. Good luck!

I cannot guarantee that the registry change will fix your problem, but the same fix has resolved this issue in other applications. Why is your IT not providing you with solutions?

For steps. Click start and type regedit. Traverse to the key that I provided above and right-click and rename it. Then reboot. It will rebuild fresh. See if you still have the problem.

If not, I recommend that your IT rebuild your Windows profile. They should be able to handle that simple task.

Travis,

I appreciate your following up. It is very helpful and reassuring to know
your background and that you will be there for support for issues on this.
I have posted on this several times and had support asking me if I had
anything frozen in a viewport and mentioned that my problem was likely user
error... So, I have to be cautious what advice to follow.

Communication through written form is not always as clear as having someone
to walk you through a process in person. If this is the fix, please walk
me through what I need to do. I have reviewed the path you provided and
worked through to the very end. You mention a 'key' called Bannerstore.
I see a Bannerstore 'folder'. Are you wanting me to right click and rename
the Bannerstore 'Folder'? Though I have already closed out the screen,
there were only two lines in the folder....something about opting in (?).

Thanks!

Yes. When you are in the registry, that "folder" is called a "key." All you have to do is rename that and then reboot. It will get recreated on your next login. And that will either fix your problem or it won't, but it will not have adverse affects on anything else -- since if it was not the problem, Windows will just rebuild it the same. If for some reason there are issues, then you would just rename the old key back. No problem.

If it does not solve your issue, then you might try logging in as your local administrator account to see if the problem is user profile based. If it is, then rebuilding your Windows profile would be the way to go.

Possibly. What is your video card and driver version? It is possible that you need an update to a WHQL driver.

Hi Travis,

I know I got a really nice video card with this computer for the sole reason of using Autocad. I will get with my local IT person to verify what the computer has.

I have been using the computer a good amount this morning, and it 'did' start making those diagonal lines running through the hatched areas again, while also showing them as solid color vs. transparent. It did that once. I clicked from model to layout and back to model and it fixes itself. Other than that I haven't seen any issues, but I know the hatch shouldn't be behaving this way. So, should I leave the key in the registry renamed as you had instructed?

Also, in the meantime, I wanted to share with you the last response from Natasha. I haven't done anything other than make the change in the registry as you had advised. See the attachment and let me know what you think.

I will need to present clear instructions to my IT person to get their help in repairing this, but I need you to vet what I tell them to do. It is getting to be way outside of my wheelhouse.

Thanks!

If your IT person doesn't know how to install a WHQL certified video card
driver for your machine, then you need a new IT person.

But that is where I would start. And you can ensure that AutoCAD is using
the video card by right-clicking the launch icon and choosing to run it
with the high end card.
