DWG TrueView 2015 Default

Is it possible to install DWG TrueView 2015 for "All Users" on a machine?

We are trying to deploy DWG TrueView (Windows 7 - x86 and x64) via SCCM.

The installation runs as the local System account. We've also done manual installations, and the same issue occurs - we've run as Administrator, local admins, non admins...

I've tried a few methods of install strings which all install correctly, from running the setup.exe silently with the setup.ini, to using the dwgviewr.msi.

I even modified the .msi, setting ALLUSERS to 1 (it was set to 2)

The install works fine for the user who installed the application.

However, when other users login they get the message:

"Run Setup.exe to install DWG TrueView 2015 - English"

They can then go and open the application - it does run with no problems, but the pop up runs every time they login.

If a user runs the setup.exe (admin or not) - it states the product is already correctly installed and nothing else can be done.

Am I missing something glaringly obvious here?

If you run normal setup for Autodesk TrueView it is installed for "all users".

The installation has a "per machine" part and a "per user" part.

If you install normally for the logged on user both parts are executed. The "per machine" part and "per user" part.

If a new user log on this machine the "per user" part of the installation is executed. Once for every new user.

Are you sure, that if you install interactive (as Admin, UAC disabled) with the original setup package from Autodesk you get the same error ?

Because the error sounds like the msi file from TrueView is executed with the wrong parameters.

I've just done another test now without any parameters - just a manual setup.exe install accepting all defaults.

It's also on a "fresh" machine to make sure there's nothing from previous installs - and the original installation media extracted locally to the PC.

Installed as administrator, no UAC.

This installed with no issue and the logged in user is able to use the application.

Logging in with a new user (which is also an administrator) brings back the same error message.

For reference, when deploying, I've not really added any properties to the installation string, just supressing reboots.

The MSI string I settled on was:

msiexec /i "x86\dwgviewr\dwgviewr.msi" ADSK_SETUP_EXE=1 MSIRESTARTMANAGERCONTROL=Disable ALLUSERS=1 REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS /le "C:\Source\Instlog\TrueView2015x86.txt"

But I also tried a more basic version of just

msiexec /i "x86\dwgviewr\dwgviewr.msi" ADSK_SETUP_EXE=1

And

Setup.exe /w /t /l /q setup.ini

Setup.exe /q

Can you activate the global MSI logging through the registry (voicewarmup) and upload the MSI*.log files to the forum ?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

Reg_SZ: Logging
Value: voicewarmup

for more information search at microsoft for "voicewarmup"

Upload the files from the base installation (are in the %temp% folder of the user which executes the process) and from the other user later logged in.

Okay, had a little bit time. And after takeing a look to the two msi logs of the user, I think your problem is:

Take a look to 3rd page, read my description and try to apply my hotfix as described.

You can also manually edit the registry as described later in the thread by "gunmanwar".

If this solves your problem, we can also transform this to the original msi from Autodesk.

But 1st try if this is really the problem you have.

Fantastic - that seems to have done the trick.

I was looking through the eventvwr logs today and seen a reference to the webservices\Dummy.txt, was wondering if dropping the file in that location would work or not!

I've just done another fresh test of installing DWG and then your fix - everything seems to be running well.

From reading your post on that page I see this works fine for x64 as well which is great.

Can you advise how to transform this with the original msi please?

Yes, no problem, but not today ... 😉

Another thing is, that TrueView installation is not compatible with .NET 4.6, this should also fixed.

Normally I use transforms and apply to msi. This works with the original setup.exe from Autodesk and also if you use the MSI with SCCM.

One thing I've seen also from your log files ist, that your TrueView 2015 version is 20.0.51, the latest download I think is 20.0.210.

So can you upload your dwgviewr.msi files (32-Bit + 64-Bit), then I create the mst files and we can discuss next week ?

We are using .Net 4.5.2 - that's okay yes?

And thanks for version info - but I think we'll stick with .51 though if that's okay?

Okay,

here is the zip file with the transforms for the x86 and x64. Please take care that you do not mix. They are not compatible !

If you use the setup.exe in silent mode to install TrueView, please append the following line to the setup.ini file:

EXE_PATH=%platform%\dwgviewr\dwgviewr.msi
TRANSFORMS=%platform%\dwgviewr\dwgviewr.mst
...

If you use msiexec pass the transforms with /T
