Can i use Maya

I have a laptop with an NVidia Quattro FX1800M video card and was wondering if this would work with Maya? I would love to learn the software but am worried i'd see performance issues.

Please provide the specs for the rest of the system - processor, OS version, RAM, etc. as well as Maya version and intended use (school? Playing around? Production work?). Everything works together so even if the video card is sufficient other parts may still cause problems.

Here are more of my specs.

OS - Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
8GB Ram
Intel Core i5 Dual Duo Core M580 @ 2.67MHZ (tested @2.79Mhz actual)
NVidia Quattro 1800M

I am looking to just learn some modelling and techniques as I was
thinking of applying for Animschool or some other program like that.
Just wondering if and what version of Maya would be best.

What you've got should be OK for light learning; 8 GB RAM is a little light and you may find more of a bottleneck there first.

Typically older versions of software are not available. Free 3-year educational licenses are available to those who are enrolled in an approved school program, so you should look into that first.
