Changing licens server

I have a exist inventor installation, about 100 computer with Inventor 2015

The installation is using LICPATH.LIC with the link to “old server”

I have created 2 new license server

@newserver1 (local license) @newserver2 (global license)

On the client computer

add ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE=@newserver1, @newserver2 system environment

In Flexera documentation is showing “,” and all Autodesk documentation I show “;”

See page 44 setting the license search path

I am little confused about the separation”,” or “;” is there any differences?

Why is my inventor slower to start up, 3 min. instead of 30 sec.

When I using ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE=@newserver1 and turn of the old license server, the old server is still linked to in the LICPATH.LIC ?

On Windows 7, at least, it is ";".

Please follow the Autodesk documentation and use the semi-colon syntax to separate the license server designation. You may also want to include the @<ip address> as well. For an example, @<local license>;@<local license IP>;@<global license>;@<global license IP>.

Also if the end user has a correct system variable pointing to the new server and an old licpath.lic file, the system variable will take precedent and licpath.lic file is ignored.

Is the load time for Inventor the same each and every time you launch it? Was this test done with your old license server turned off/or the license server service stopped.

I will follow Autodesk documentation with ";"
I Stopped the server services.
the load time was after reboot the computer.

if I open inventor and close again and open again then it is fast enough.

I think that inventor is using the licpath.lic even when I using ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE
I tried some to change the licpath.lic linked to another server that is turn on witout license manager.
I was the same result slow, if I change the licpath.lic linked write test instead of a servername.
then it fast.

The issue could be the registry key is overloaded with the application paths to the licpath.lic file. Goto the following location within the registry editor and clear out the value. Once cleared, enter only your 2 servers using the formatting mentioned by @Mark.Lancaster. @servername1;@servername2

Registry Key location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager

There could also be a DNS issue as well, so you should also include the IP Addresses of those servers resulting in the following:

@Servername1;@serverIP1@servername2;@serverIP2

You can create a login script to replace everyone's LICPATH.LIC file with a new one, or simply remove it. That might resolve your issue.

In addition, if it were me, and I was going to completely retire the old system offline, then I would make a DNS server change to point the old servername/IP address to the new servername. That way anything trying to access the old host would be resolved to the new host. The same thing can be accomplished in the Windows HOSTS file if you are unable or unwilling to mess with your internal DNS.

I can't change oldserverver name, because there is some other programs that is using this server.
That is one of the reasons we want to change server.
I think i will go for rename the LICPATH.LIC to something like LICPATH.LIC.NOTINUSE.

@Rene-J Did you clear out the value of the registry key and replace it with your servers (@server1...?

The ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE variable trumps the licpath.lic file. In addition, by adding the port number will speed up the process because it doesn't have to scan through multiple ports. To do this, open the license file which is located on the server. Once opened, add the port number to the end of the SERVER line.

Should look like this:

SERVER TESTING 0011223344 27003

The port number can be anything within the range of 27000 through 27009.

After the license file is update, edit environment variable to include the port like so...

ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE
27003@Server1;27003@Server2...

Also, make sure you change the registry I mentioned in my previous email.

If this doesn't help there's another issue I've seen in the past which caused this issue. Your network infrustructure may consists of Gigabit Switches, but your ethernet card is currently set to 100Mbps. Changing the speed to 1Gbps would fix the issue.
