Network License Manager

Hello,

we have installed 2 License of Building Design Suite, and we bought 2 Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection.

My question is:

Can i install this products with Network License Manager?

At least can i install this 2 products and in function of what program i'm using i use the right License?

For Example i use P&id i use the collection, and if i use Revit i use the suite.

I hope I have good explained.

The network license manager does not install software it only manages your licenses.

Your collection would be term based, what about your suite license? Are they based on term license? The reason I'm asking if that when you start combining perpetual license and term based license the cascading order changes. For example if your suite license is perpetual then any launch of the application will pull first for a term or in your case a collection license before your perpetual license gets pulled. So if you launch 2 sessions of AutoCAD, AutoCAD would be pulled from the collection first. That's why we need more information about your license type. If they are both based on term, then AutoCAD would pull first from the Suite.

I agree w/@Mark.Lancaster, Term licenses will always be used before perpetual licenses when using network license files. That's the new way of cascading... So what Mark is saying is that Term Suites would be pulled before Collections, but if your suites are perpetual, then the collections will be used up first.

i know that the License manager is only the system to manage the License on the server...

But sorry what is perpetual??

I have:

2 Building Design Suite with Subscription

2 Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection

For Example:

The same type of License have Revit. Only the collection has the P&id.

If i use 2 Revit on 2 different computer can i use the two Suite License? SO the two collection are free and i can use P&Id?

When your purchased your suite license is it based on a term license like your collection is? Prior to Aug 2016 you could purchase suites as term based (you don't own you rent it) or as a perpetual license (where you do own it). That's why we need that info.

Hello. If you purchased the products as a network licensed version, you would need to install a license manager and a license file. Products will pull licenses based on their cascade order.

Based on what you state, I would expect you would only pull the license for the P&ID product and when you open revit, since it is in the same collection, would not pull a new license.

The building design suite was bought in 2013 with subscription.

Then you have a perpetual license of a suite. Meaning you are combining term license (your collection) with your suite license (perpetual). So when that occurs collection license will always pull first. Here's a quick look at the order in simple terms:

If my single product was AutoCAD, then it would pull the license in this order.

Single product – term based single product

Single product – maintenance subscription single product

Single product – Suite term based

Single product – Collection term based

Single product – Suite maintenance subscription

Single product – perpetual no maintenance

Single product – perpetual suite no maintenance

So the first 2 users that launch an application, the license that will be used is your collection. Which means you will most likely need an option file to control who gets what license. Do you know how to make an option file?

Update: So users like yourself that have this license combination are realizing users are consuming the collection license first and then when someone actually needs an application from the collection, there's no license to give. So that means if 2 people in your organization launched Revit and then a 3rd person when to use P&ID, well guess what, they will be told there's no license available.

But for recapping...

I have:

- 2 Building Design Suite (Single user installed on 2 computer and i will install also on another 2 computer)

- 2 Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection that i will install on 4 computer)

So i have 8 possible user

(thi 2 products are compatible with Network License manage? This Beacuse my reseller says that are not compatible 😕 and i can only install on local machine)

At least i will do a option file to control who gets what license.

Are both of these license based on a network license type? Simply indicated yes or no..

I don't know.

The new Licenses on the order:

Architecture Engineering Construction Collection Annual Desktop Subscription with Basic support.

The Suites are for single user

When you installed the suites since you had them since 2013, did you ever install a license manager? Or did you activate the product by selecting activate and Autodesk issued you an activation code based on the request code from the machine.

The information you provided about your collection is very generic. We need to know if this is a single user or single user/mult-seat term license (standalone version) or if its a multi-user term based license (network version).

This information is crucial because our response depends on it and right now I'm beginning to think you don't have a network license type for your product.

Please find out so we can provide a proper solution to you..

OK, thanks a lot for your help!

The suite i have since 2013 are stand alone single user. WIth the product key (xxxxx) and activation key (xxx-xxxxxxx)

So at least this product will not work with license manager.

If we talk about the collection...How i can understand if is network licensed?

Check you Autodesk Account to see if the serial number of the collection reads Multi-user or Single-user. If it reads Multi-user, then it a network license in which case you'll need the license manager.

Ok, i have the single user, i requested to my reseller if is possible to upgrade my license to Network...

When i have a Network License i can work with two different program of the same collection at the same time?

For Example:

One collection: Pc1 work with revit and pc2 work with P&ID and pc3 work on Autocad

Right?

No this is not possible. When a given application is pulled from the Collection license, the entire collection license is used. Others would receive a message indicating there's no license available. Although a collection may have "X" number of applications, you only have a single license for that Collections. However if you have more than 1 license than yes you can launch another application on another machine and grab the next Collection license.
