Hello,

I have a MSI laptop computer with all the requirements to run Maya with Windows 10 home.

I downloaded both Maya 2016 and 2017 student version. The program was working fine, but has not been consistent.

Sometimes it loads fine, but other times it crashes on the startup- the program opens but the view-port does not load. Same goes for attempting to open a file.

I have tried re installing several times, restarting my machine, and I don't know why it's not loading properly.

I have heard that the professional version of Windows 10 is required. But I do not want to purchase that unless I know for sure that it works.

A friend of mine has been having lots of issues with his Maya on his Windows 10 pro PC as well... is Maya compatible?

Any advice/help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Maya is compatible with Windows 10 and you do not need the Pro version. Generally, if the application is crashing, it is almost certainly due to the video card/video driver combination. What is your video card and driver?

Thanks for the reply,

I'm not very computer savy, and was told this computer would run the program.

graphic card: NVIDIA GTX960M

Processor: Intel Core i7-5700HQ CPU @ 2.70GHz (intel HD Graphics 5600)

12GB ram 64 bit

While I cannot find a supported driver for that card, you might have luck installing this latest WHQL driver from NVidia:

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/111030/en-us

Perform a clean install if it asks.

Good Luck!

tried this, updated the card to version 375.95 with a clean install.

It still will not launch Maya. I see that the 960 card is not on the Maya certified list. But the 780 or 980 is. Do I have the wrong graphics card? Do I need a different machine?

Thanks

-Darynn

Maybe? When it comes to graphic intensive applications like Maya, the approved list actually has much more of an impact, than say, AutoCAD would.

I honestly can't imagine that it will. Though the requirements state Pro version of Windows 10, the only differences in the OS are generally IT related and not software related. Unless you plan on using more than 128GB of RAM, join a domain, or use Hyper-V, there is virtually no difference.
