Infraworks 2020 - Component Roads and Intersections

Hi Everyone,

Is anyone having trouble auto creating intersections using component roads in 2020? I have been playing around with both custom and out of the box assemblies and the intersection just will not create. I have checked vertical geometry ties in. I have fiddled around with the grips and nothing seems to resolve.

So I tried creating an intersection with two planning road and boom the intersection created as expected. Easy! However, I then converted the planning roads to component roads and the intersection deconstructed itself.

Is this a known 2020 issue or am I the only one having trouble with it?

I did see a post on the forum which noted that there may an 'abstract component' in one of the assemblies but I have no idea what that was supposed to mean. None of the assemblies work. It seems specific to component roads regardless of assembly or component making up the assembly.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Are the intersections you trying to create on roads that loop back onto themselves?If so, this may be the issue, as this is not supported for component roads at this time. It has been something we are looking at as a future improvement.

If not, can you post a picture of what is happening so we can better understand the issue? Thanks!

I am having the same issue. I'm running 2020.2 Update. I have a component road going north and south with a new component going west to east ending at the original that did not work. I tried to add a planned road and ended it at the component road which connected them but not as an intersection. When I converted the planned road to a component road if gave me the warning message shown in the attached image. I thought it might be and elevation difference so I made the one PI elevation match the component road elevation with no luck. Let me know if I'm doing some thing wrong. Is there a specific method on which to create intersections?

@DaneMartin Lane markerings of component road look weird. for the component road drawn from top to bottom, is it a four lane component road with different lane width?

Do you have an itersection created if you are using out of box assemblies at othe area of your model? e.g creating a T intersection at other area, are you able to create a intersection?

I have created a 3 lane section using 6 foot component lane on either side of centerline to create the middle 12 foot lane. If I remove the middle lanes it still does not create the intersection. I tried in another area to create an intersection from out of the box assemblies as component roads still with no luck. See attached image.

I do not see a 3 lane section assembly out of the box. Do you know of one?

@DaneMartin Could you please check if you have design standard installed correctly?

Manage Tab->Model->Model properties.

This might be one reason which will impact intersection creation.

@DaneMartin ,

looks weird. a bunch of questions:

1. Does the issue be reproducied on every model? or just one model?

2. could you please share the log file after you created two roads? log file is located to a similar location like this one

\Users\..\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk InfraWorks\logs

I will take a look to see why it happens?

Yes, I can reproduce this in every model. See attached log file and image.

Did the log files I uploaded help you understand why my component road intersections are not working correctly?

Good morning, just curious if anyone has figured out how the intersections work yet? I'm having the same issues as Ian.Bannon and DaneMartin. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar problem with component roads not generating intersections occasionally. Turns out my issue was that I had turned off the "roads" surface layer that contained all the model builder-generated planning roads. Apparently, my component roads were trying to connect to the turned-off planning roads that were underneath the component roads and therefore intersections could not be created. I found that removing entirely the roads data source containing the planning roads was the best solution for me. This might not be the same issue that others are having but hopefully this helps.

I forget the specific elements of the model I had the issue with, but having the "road" layer turned off the instead of deleting them may have been part of the issue. I have the 2022 version now and it works as expected.
