Australia NSW Workflow with Civil 3D and Infraworks using Model Builder

In NSW, Australia civil designs are typically undertaken using the coordinate system map grid of Australia. So then the Civil 3D models will be developed in this coordinate system.

If we undertake a new model in infraworks using model builder we are locked into using the LL84 coordinate system. So the civil 3D models (if we want to import all civil 3D objects) need to be in this coordinate system.

Is there anyway to import the data layers from a model builder. What is a good workflow where the civil 3D models can retain the MGA coordinate system and utilise data layers from the model builder. Is this possible? Or are you forced to create new models manually?

In a future release you will be able to designate the coordinate system of your choice using the Model Builder.

For New South Wales, one can download data, such as in the following example, and use it to develop customized road networks using the fields for the number of lanes and road width.

It is not clear what practical problem you encountered.
Indeed, the model builder creates the model in LL84. But this does not limit us at all in the interaction in the Civil 3D model in the local coordinate system.
For any interaction between Civil 3D and Infravex, we indicate the source and target coordinate system. Thus, the data can be converted from LL84 to the local coordinate system and vice versa.
1. We can assign a local coordinate system in the model properties.

2. We can specify the local coordinate system of the Civil 3D drawing as the initial one when importing data into Infravorks.

3. When you attach the InfraWorks model to Civil 3D, the data is also converted to the local coordinate system.

It can be argued that the lack of choice of a coordinate system in the model builder does not limit us in our next work.

It sounds like for now I will need to wait for future updates to use the model builder option and use the new option for new models.
