All roads have disappeared from all proposals

Hi!

1. Everything was fine.

2. In one of the model proposals, I tried adding a Proposal road that intersected to a Component road.

3. After creation the model became unstable, and the block with the new road did not load, and i had to quit Infraworks.

4. The model remained unstable, without being able to load the block with the new road, even after restarting several times.

5. In the model proposal, I found the newly created road's ID, and manually deleted it.

6. Now the model loaded correctly.

7. But now all roads, also the ones that were just fine previously, have disappeared. Their ID and placement are still there when i select them one-by-one, but the surface of the road and their adjustments to the surrounding terrain are not displaying. This has impacted all model proposals, not only the proposal I was working on.

What has happened, and how do i revert back to the original state?

Hi @Anonymous ,

it sounds as with the shut down of InfraWorks in step 3 your model database got corrupted.
After that each edit you make (step 5) can create unpredictable results.

A first troubleshooting step can be to see if the model is in a good stata agaoin after running the model repair tool. It's currently only availabale as beta feature and you need to install the Rolling Sandbox release from feedback.autodesk.com.
If you can create a zip file of the model.sqlite and model.files folder and provide that zip file, I can run the repair tool for you ans send you back the model. Let me know...

Thank you for your reply.

I have registered on the feedback.autodesk.com site, but can't find the Rolling sandbox release for Infraworks.

The model is hosted and stored on BIM360, so can't seem to find the model.sqlite and model.files folder anywhere I can access it (as far as I have searched). But I am very much interested in trying out the repair tool. Any idea where I can find the model folders? And how would you like to recieve the zip file?

do you see this section in the feedback portal?

All Bim360 InfraWorks models are cached locally. Open your InfraWorks application options to find the path on your system:

Hi!

I managed to download the Rolling Sandbox beta, and copy the model to the new version.

Didn't find the model repair tool, thought.

Where is it located in the menus?

After opening the model in the beta I managed to get the components roads to show up again, but still the same issue with the block with the (corrupt?) last added roadpiece loading forever and the program freezing.

Maybe you could try to open it and see if you can find out what is causing the errors and freezing?

Hi @Anonymous ,

I will take a look at your model.
The model recovery tool must be started from the Sandbox installation location, there must be a file "AIM_Model_Recover.exe".

Be careful with upgrading your model to the Sandbox version as you upgrade it to a new schema version. It cannot be opened in a release version anymore. You have to wait for the next InfraWorks official update to be able to open it in a release version again.

the model repair tool cannot find any errors in your model.

But can you confirm that all roads appear again if you switch them on in the model layers?

I see that there is another tile generation issue where the tunnel is located.

Yes, the roads appear again.

But the tile generation issue is still there - where the last added proposal road (that I thought i had deleted) is located.

I think the fix here might be to remove and delete the last added proposal road piece, and hope that the rest of the model is still fine.

Any tips on how to manually delete a road piece, when it is not loading in the model?

I don't have any solution for how to make this model working again.
After the roads layer is switched on, the model more or less freezes with tile generation.
I can forward it to the development team for investigation, but it will take some time before we get results.

I would very much appreciate it if you could forward it to the development team - even though it might take som time.

Additional information that might be relevant:

- The issue happened in the moment I tried to connect a newly created "Planning road" to an existing "Component road". Maybe the interface between the road types is buggy?

I have received a confirmation from the development team that this issue happens due to a road grading problem in the model. The team will investigate and fix it for the next release.

to continue working with your model - did you add the latest roads from a data source to InfraWorks?
If yes, I suggest to not turn the roads layer on, so you have the chance to remove the data source before you turn the layer on again.

No, the new road piece (that caused the error) was created manually with the Planning road create tool in Infraworks - not imported.

Is there any way to remove a road piece manually?

to remove a sketched feature you need to select it and then delete.
If the roads layer is switched off, you cannot select the road.
If you switch it on, the program is not responsive while tile creation.

I was successful before with other similar issues to for example switch on the road layers and quickly press ESC to cancel the tile generation. Or zoom in very close, so that the affected tiles are not on screen, then switch the road layer on.
With you model I was not successful so far, unfortunately.
