Hi Autodesk community,

When I try to import a corridor from Civil3D to Infraworks, gaps show up between corridors. The gaps will disappear when the frequencies are modified in Civil3D. The frequencies are set to the absolute minimum which makes the drawing very hard to process for the computer. Is there any other way to make these little gaps disappear?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @j.boon ,

are these gaps in the triangulation of the road terrain/surface?
You can check if you switch to the Engineering View.
If the gaps are in the triangulation, are you working witj large coordinates in Civil 3D?
Just for testing, what happens if you move the corridor in Civil 3D close to X,Y = 0,0 and import into InfraWorks then?

Regards,

Hi @j.boon ,

is it possible to share that Civil 3D sample DWG?

I'm wondering it it's an InfraWorks issue or a corridor surface creation issue in Civil 3D.
InfraWorks basically imports the Civil 3D corridor surface, so it could be that the triangulation issue happens in Civil 3D or while converting to IMX.
A quick test would be to export your DWG as IMX file, the re-import the IMX into a new DWG and check for the triangulation at the affected location.

Regards,

Karsten.

@Karsten.Saenger

@j.boon

Hello Karsten, Jeroen,
Do you have an update on this one (eventually from Wojtek as well)?

I have the same issue as Jeroen. Even when augmenting the frequency the results are not what to be expected:

The Corridor Surface on the contrary doesn't show any gaps:

Export/Import IMX of the Corridor Surface as the workflow you mentioned, results in the same: Surface without gaps.

It seems like IW is having issues with the treatment of assemblies with a depth/thickness:

All used subassemblies only have codes assigned to toplinks en top points, so it's strage IW creates 'vertical' geometry as shown above:

So, in my opinion, the only 'clean' workaround, is the 'old school' method: importing Corridor Surface as Terrain, and then using Coverages to apply materials.

Unless - as Jeroen stated - we are overlooking something 'obvious' 😉
