How do you make the chain link fence?

What am I doing wrong here....

Go to place the fence, draw the line, and the fence sections come out rotated at 90deg instead of a straight line.

Comes out like this:

I want it like this:

When you lay out the fence, the asset card will show. Or you can click on the fence and the asset card will show. See pic below...

Mine looks different, instead of being under decoration it is under city furniture, and the properties listed on the palette are different than your screen shot.

I am using 2022 FWIW. What version are you using? Maybe I should grab that one instead. Or am I doing something else wrong here?

Hey @Todd_Rogers do you know why this wouldn't work with an imported shapefile? I'm just trying to import the proposed fence line from a plan set. It doesn't want to let me populate the 3D model for the decoration.

Ouch! Looks like there is a graphics issue there. See if you can drag the asset card away and try to resize it.

@Todd_Rogers whoops, I should have included more information.

So, no 3D model is showing up in the properties, or in the actual model space. Since the 3D fence isn't showing, I right-clicked the linear feature in the data sources and used the "select feature". Below is what my model looks like after selecting the imported feature.

The issue may be occurring after importing my shapefile? Just in case below are the setting of my import. Maybe you'll see something that stands out there. Maybe a linear decoration shouldn't be draped?

@Todd_Rogers I think I figured it out. I'm running 21.2.137.0....I did notice that in 2021 you can't draw linear decorations, I just assumed if I could import a linear decoration it'd be the same, but maybe it isn't?

I'm not sure if I understood correctly what you are doing.

Am I right that you imported a shape file (2D) and assigned the feature linear decoration and it doesn't show?

If yes, I think it can be explained by using 2D objects where 3D objects are expected.

As far as I can say, the linear decoration uses 3D models that are placed on a "line" repeatedly. You can adjust the gap between the 3D models and the frequency. But it's not possible to use that feature with 2D shapes.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

@Todd_Rogers is there a way to replace the chain link fence with a custom material? In older versions of Infraworks I could easily drag and drop a custom barrier (say a black transparent fence that I created from a custom material) onto a barrier. I don't seem to be able to do that in the latest version of Infraworks. Am I missing something?

The only way to do it for what you're trying to do is to download the material in the form of a .jpg or .png, then double click your fence you have shown and add that material to it. Unfortunately, it will change ALL of them in your model. So, if you want 2 different ones, you can copy the one you have and alter one of them, then choose the other one for the other fence, and so on.

@Todd_Rogers That makes sense, and I just tried that, but my custom barrier "black fence" is not showing up in the select component dialog box. Any ideas as to why it wouldn't show up as an option?

That's odd. Type Black Fence in the search filter area at the top of the Component dialog box and see if it shows up.

Unfortunately, it does not show up and I cannot figure out for the life of me why not...

Try copying your Black Fence over to the tab Component. You can create a custom folder there. It should show up after this.
