Coverage area

Hello,

I please need help with how to show turf in median area. I brought in median curb from ACAD as a shape file and it shows nicely. Now I need to put turf into this median, so I brought it as sdf file from ACAD as well and assigned it as Land Cover. It does show up, but only below the road (please see attached photos). I can't bring turf above the road, and draw order doesn't work. The only way to see turf in a median is to turn road layer off. Is there a way to fix this problem? Thank you for help! Yelena

Hi @Anonymous,

I suggest trying to drape a 2D image of the turf over the island area. To help ease this process, try and make the image shape similar to the turf area. 2D images will drape over roadways.

This has been a recurring complaint that I've seen over the years. Roads are king and all things bow down to the king.

You can't put anything on top of a road (I suppose with the exception of 3D models). If you want a coverage on top of a road, the road will cover it. If you want a rail to be on top of a road, the road will intersect with it. If you want to draw a sidewalk across the road, the road will intersect it. Nothing can be placed on top of a road.

Willy's recommendation won't work because the road will cover the image and there is currently no way to bring the image above the road. The only option you have is to model the road so that it doesn't go into the median area which, as far as I know, can't be done.

I suppose you could create a solid from the median, apply a render material to it of the grass, and then bring that in.

That's a nice looking model!

I would use the 3D Model approach, and use Sketchup/3DSMax to generate a solid grass "puzzle piece" that fits into your median. Place it as City Furniture and it should stay above the road.

Willy messaged me privately and showed me the errors of my ways. I stand corrected. Image will drape over a road! And a bridge! This is something new to me. I wonder about the possibilities!

In 2017.1 [April 2016 release] it is possible to drape 2D images, and these will also drape over roads. The possibilities are endless! Striping, commuter rails, etc. Of course these are 2D...

This is an intersection where rail needs to cross right in the middle. You can imagine the carnage when you add a rail. Trying some things out, we ran rail up to both sides, and draped an image across with [i think] pretty good success.
