topic Frustrating graphics issue in InfraWorks Forum

I've x-posted in the Revit MEP and Infraworks forums in hopes of gettting more eyes on this problem.

I recently got a new laptop at work and the display has been off and on reliable. In Infraworks, whenever I open a palette (model properties, scenarios, etc...) the sky begins to flicker. It starts slow and builds to a rapid flicker. And in Revit 2016 and 2017, the video driver will randomly crap out. It doesn't matter what I'm doing at the time. I could be in a 3D view, a plan view or just simply renaming a view. It doesn't matter if hardware acceleration is turned on or off.

My laptop is a 64-bit Win 7 Enterprise, 32GB RAM, Quadro M4000M video card (driver date of 05-10-2016). I'm using the laptop monitor and a Dell monitor for my displays.

I've gone through this AKN article and haven't had any luck. I used the NVIDIA Control Panel to change the settings. I haven't gone down the bios route (not sure that it would really make a difference) because I can't access it (IT restrictions).

Can anyone think of ANY settings that I could look at? Maybe something I've missed?

Thanks in advance!

Does it make a difference if you put the wind speed at 0 in your Sun and Sky settings? What about if you turn off High Visual Quality in the Visual Effects settings?

Hi @Matt__W,

I cannot speak to the Revit issue, but in InfraWorks, you are experiencing what I can only describe as 'graphics focusing.' Meaning when you open a menu or similar, the focus of the graphics card is removed from the background model, and placed on the menu/window. You will find as soon as you close these, the flicker goes away. This was more pronounced, but as I was just verifying this in 2017.1, the model does become slow and choppy, but does not flicker like it used to.

This has been and continues to be an expected behavior in IW when the main focus is removed from the model view window.

Hmmm... I didn't experience any of this choppiness in the 2015/2016 versions on my other laptop. I can't speak to 2017 because I didn't have it installed on that computer. I got my new laptop shortly after the 2017 versions of IW/Revit/AutoCAD were released so it didn't make sense to install them on the older laptop.

So what I think you're essentially saying is that I have to learn to live with it?

This particular driver has been recently installed and so far everything is working as it should.
