PVI points are automatically modifed / added

Hi,

I'm creating a design road and after placing the road some PVIs are automatically created (which i'm guessing this is snapping to the existing terrain?). Howerver, after I've modifying these points (removing most, moving some and adding in vertical curves) infraworks decides that its going to drape the alignment onto the existing surface again and all my changes are gone. Not only that but the undo operation does nothing to revert back.

After a bit of testing I've found that it does the same thing as 'Recreate profile' does but without the confirmation dialog.

Has anyone experienced this? or have a solution?

This does seem to be odd behavior that I cannot replicate. When I create a new Design Road, I get very few PVI's, and when I add/update these in profile view, the changes stay, and update the Plan view. Even if I use the recreate profile option, it reverts back to the original profile design. In my case, very few PVI's.

I tried to create a Sketch road, and convert it to a Design road, and I get the same results as above.

Was your road imported from say Civil 3D, and converted to a Design road?

The design road was created from infraworks (not out of Civil 3d), the area I'm working in is a major city and the data I'm using is pretty bad at best... openstreetmap data and some of the terrain data is incorrect also.

The PVIs that are automatically created seem to be where the design road crosses existing roads. It seemed as the the design road was recreating itself and as part of this draping onto the existing terrain / snapping to the existing roads. I'll try again today to see if I can replicate the issue

If I understand correctly, it seems that the intersecting roads are causing this behavior. I recommend either deleting, or removing the crossing roads along a small portion of your road, setting the profile, and then reconnecting the intersections so they snap to your new elevations, rather than the opposite.

When I tested this, I only had one road with no intersecting roads that could cause this.

Thanks Willy, removing the pieces of the crossing roads will be quiet a big task as the area I'm dealing with is in a city region. I've been able to find better data and run thru a few tutorials to better understand how infraworks, works. In particular using the elevation and stack properties. So far I haven't been able to replicate the issue, but I also haven't tried to put in any design roads either.

@Anonymous is there any chance you could capture a screencast of the point where it's draping itself automatically? Perhaps we'll be able to see some clues as to what's going on.
