Is there a way to change the default roundabout type? I'm trying to convert an intersection in a subdivision to a roundabout but I keep getting an error that it's unable to solve the geometry. This is because it's trying to place a monster roundabout it a small residential subdivision. There is an option for a mini roundabout that would fit just fine but I can't do that because I have to create the roundabout first and then change it's type but I can't create the roundabout because the massive roundabout won't fit.

Hmm interesting... that is a good question. So I tried the same task you did and got the same results. The only way I was able to convert the intersection into a roundabout for this situation was to change the style type in the Stack to the FHWA-2010 Mini roundabout. Like you said wish we could set the default roundabout type maybe in the Model Properties, right under the road design standards.

So, how did you get it to do it then? I can't change it to a roundabout because the geometry is too constricting and the only way I can choose the type is after making it into a roundabout. Did you have to disconnect the adjacent roads first? Or did you do something else?

I got this message below. When I change the my intersection to the roundabout I got that error message and it change the intersection into none design road intersection. While the command was still active, I changed my roundabout to the min-roundabout. Please also note that I am using version 17.1.44.0 of InfraWorks 360.

Interesting. I'm using the same version but I'm getting a different message. What method are you using to convert the intersection? When I right click and choose "Convert to Roundabout", I get a message at the bottom of the screen that says, "Unable to Convert - Unsolvable Roundabout Geometry" and when I try to change it in the stack, it simply does nothing.

Hi Karsten,

I created a new drawing, opened the InfraWorks model in the drawing, erased the old intersection, created a new roundabout, now, how do I get just that new roundabout into my model? I don't need to bring in the rest of the roads or the intersections with the other roads or...

I tried bringing in all the roads again with very poor results (the new roundabout was at a drastically different elevation). I just want to change the default roundabout type to the mini roundabout. I should be able to do that. Or, the program should realize that the default MONSTER HUGE roundabout won't fit in this small subdivision and will choose a the largest roundabout that will fit. If none will fit, then it should fail. The min roundabout will fit just fine but I can't choose it because it's not the default and the command fails to create any roundabout so I can't even change it afterwards.

Brian,

The simplest workflow to get a roundabout at that 4 way stop, is to temporary remove (or move further away) the intersection to the left freeing up space for the new roundabout, convert the 4 way intersection into a roundabout, change the default type / edit the approach lengths to those required and then reinstate the removed intersection to the left of the new roundabout.

At the moment the "convert to roundabout" will always use a single set of defaults and this sadly causes some conversions to fail. I am not sure why nothing is happening when you attempt to do the conversion from the stack. On my machine, when running both the current released version and the sandbox versions of InfraWorks, I get the error warning both when using the right click menu and the stack.

Hi,

I have an issue that I is related to this post. I want to make a roundabout for a local road, its pretty small and slow speed., so it doesn't need to have so much space to make the arms entrance (sorry I am not very familiar with those terms in English, hope its understandable). But I though firstly to do in the easy way, as I am bringing a sketch from .DWG I exported it as SDF, and it should import it already perfect. But not.. because when it makes the intersections with each road, it gets deformed.

My goal is to make a nice image of it perfectly round. So I thought deleting it and making a single intersection and changing to roundabout, but I am not familiar with design roads, I am missing something. First I get a message that there is insufficient space for the intersection (in the case the arms make odd angles), and after having a hard time to manipulate it, there is no space for the roundabout. I made it in a different region and manipulated it to get closer, but still couldn't get rid of this long arc connecting the entrances and also, I can't put in the exact angle I need.

I am beginner in using Infraworks for design, I think there are design criteria that I am missing, I wonder how I could get to the result I need, which is not impossible to build. Please check the attached image with the layout I am trying to make.

I thought trying a workarround but I am having difficulties in manipulating things in the model. I think its not that big and there might be an issue with my data - I made this other post about this issue: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/infraworks-forum/simplify-sdf-data/td-p/9020507
