How to simulate LEFT TURN LANE traffic flow

Hello!

I have a problem when trying to simulate the traffic flow in intersections.

In my intersection I have two lanes going straight forward (width 2.5 m/lane). I also have created a left turn lane in the intersection where the median is (width 2.5 m as well).

When I then use the traffic simulation tool and the traffic analyst panel the traffic won't use the left turn lane. How do I get them to drive on the left turn lane?

Also, instead of using the LT lane, they use the middle lane to turn left even though the lane markings say only straight forward. See added picture for further clarity.

I still don't get the left lane turn to work in an intersection. The cars won't use it. Do you have any more detailed steps to how to fix it? Does it work for you?

Hi!

I have the same problem and would really like an answer too. Have we done anything wrong in our models or is the software limited?

I add a picture of how the model looks in Traffic Analyst Panel. As you can see, the left turn lane is blocked.

Hi Samantha,

Thanks for reporting your issue. Left turn lane should be supported by the simulation tool and by looking into your snapshot, it should be working. So it might be a data specific problem. Could you share me the traffic model traffic.aza with me so that I can take a closer look? It can be found here - C:\Users\*username*\Documents\Autodesk InfraWorks Models\Autodesk 360\*modelID*\*modelname*.files\Resources\TrafficModels\*modelID*\traffic.aza.

Hi Emelie,

I checked the traffic model in the TAP in your snapshot, it seemed that the left turn lane is not created. Was the road a component road? Was the left turn lane created by inserting a lane component? The current behavior is that newly-inserted road components like a lane is not created in the traffic model.

No we used design roads when created the roads but we upgraded our version of the software to version 17.3.133
