I am adjusting a road to fit between two rail crossings but no matter how I adjust the profile of the street it still has a noticable dip between the rail lines. The profile doesn't need to be exact but I just want to make it look smooth somehow.

Hello @Anonymous

Yo have too many VPI's along this profile, and as far as I can see in order to have a smooth match between the rails, I find from STA 14+84.19 to STA. 18+84.64 the current location of the section of the road you are referring to, correct?

What I would do is to modify the length of this SAG vertical curve and adjust the actual station of this particular VPI. On top of that I would clean the unnecessary VPI's as well as adjust the vertical curve lengths. I am not sure if you are following any specific standards for design speed, K value, vertical geometry requirements, etc... You have this road listed as Local classification and Speed as 27.96 mph, so I guess not.

If you are going for a more precise profile, you can actually work on it within Civil 3D and through the mapexport command, shot this out as a shapefile, and bring it into Infraworks.

Here is a video that shows this workflow:

We're still having problems with the rail crossing, even when we put the model into Civil 3D and adjust the alignment there the rail still causes the road profile to dip in the visualization although the profile view shows it to be smooth.

And the sqlite file too... I'd like to try and get this for him, but the coordinate system he is using is not helpful as I can't get it in the right location with model builder...

Thanks

Attached is sqlite file and the IMX from Civil 3D. The problem isn't with changing the alignment in Civil 3D, the problem is that Infraworks overrides that alignment at the rail crossings, we need a way to change how the road alignment is adjusted around these transitions in IW. As it is the Style Palette does not have the option to edit these settings, but it should. The file is too large so I'll upload it here.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rpxslcxsmhts0kq/AABrMqUwRPCM4eLOXm3G4tpua?dl=0
