Hi everyone,

did anyone ever operate with Vietnam 2000 coordinate system? If used it seems to not provide a correct set of coordinates...

I have never used a Coordinate System for Vietnam, but I am not aware of any issues.

There are a number of systems available for Vietnam, which of them makes troubles?

Could you also send a description of what you are doing and what kind of problems you are facing exactly?

The problem seems to be in the definition of the Vietnam2000.LL coordinates system.

In the model properties, I've changed the coordinates system UCS from XY-M to Vietnam2000.LL but the coordinates shown at the bottom left of the screen are not updating. The other Vietnam coordinates system are working perfectly but I'm required to use this one.

Hi @davide.simeone

a XY-M coordinate system only defines a system with x and y axis and metric units. There is no reference point or any other transformation definition available. The geodetic transformation information between coordinate systems must be available to have InfraWorks transform on the fly.

Your UCM is XY-M, how about the database CS, is it also XY-M?

The DB CS is LL84 since I needed to create an infra model through the model builder, while the UCS is set in XY-M. what I've noticed is that while changing the UCS to other Vietnam CS affects, the coordinates shown in the window, if I choose the Vietnam2000.ll it does not provide any update. If the trasformation rules are missing, how can I implement them in the model?

I am not able to recreate the issue on my system. Here is what I have done:

Created a Model Builder model somewhere in Vietnam, database CS is LL84 (=WGS84)
The coordinates in InfraWorks are displayed in Lat/Long
Changed UCS to XY-M, coordinates are still displayed in Lat/Long as there is no transformation information
Changed UCS to ETRS89, coordinates are displayed in metric X and Y
Changed UCS to VietnamLL, coordinates are displayed in Lat/Long again

There is actually no difference between VietnamLL and LL84, other than the minimum and maximum valid extension is set to the bounding box for Vietnam. This can be checked if you type MAPCSLIBRARY in Civil 3D or Map 3D.

Does it work for you if you set the UCS to LL84?

Unfortunately no. Consider that Vietnam2000 coordinate systems does rely on LL system but origin seems to be translated to Hanoi.

I've found this:

Article 1. Now use the system parameters to switch between international coordinate system
WGS-84 coordinate system of national and VN-2000 is as follows:
1. Parameter shifts the origin:
-191.90441429 M; -39.30318279 m; -111.45032835 m.
2. The coordinate rotation:
-0.00928836 " ; 0.01975479" ; -0.00427372".
3. Scaling length:
k = 1.000000252906278.

Hi @davide.simeone

there is no possibility to edit or create a coordinate system (CS) with InfraWorks tools, you need to have Civil 3D or Map 3D available to do that.

I have double checked the coordinates in Civil 3D and can say that there is a correct Geodetic Transformation info available for VietnamLL.

But when connecting to the InfraWorks sqlite file via FDO connection and changing the CS from LL84 to VietnamLL in Civil 3D there is also no change in the CS display.

Please confirm that it is expected that the CS displays numbers closer to 0,0 as the origin point was moved to a reference in Vietnam.

Do you have any data available that has VietnamLL coordinates, for example a shape file? I would like to do some more tests and forward this issue to our development team if the transformation still does not work.

civil 3d use only projected coordinate system, while Vietnam 200 LL is GIS coordinate system. Vietnam 200 LL can only applicable in MAP 3D. so during opening infrawork model in civil 3d select WGS84 zone 48 for Hanoi region and open model, but still your roads and other feature will be slightly at different location due to geodetic transformation from LL84 to UTM. so to solve that problem go to edit drawing settings and in transformation tab check apply transformations setting , then apply and zoom to extent, hope this will work.

I'm actually encountering problems when importing civil3d file (in Vietnam2000) in the Infraworks model. In fact, the civil 3d Model (set in Vietnam2000, as in pic. 1) is imported far from the expected position. Do you know how to correctly set the infraworks importing (pic.2)?

sorry for the late reply. a couple of day i was busy, just because of my exam.

i created the model manually in V2000 LL coordinate system somewhere in Hanoi.

i imported two type of shp file. one was from WGS LL84 and other was from V2000 LL. only shp file having WGS84 LL coordinate system imported to exact location, as per your problem, i think it can only be possible if you change the coordinate system of your drawing using MAP 3D with spatial query.
