I have a model that was created using model builder and then imported a C3D surface via IMX export and LandXML export both failed. I know this because I also imported 2 pipe networks via IMX. The pipes are sticking out of the ground. They are correct in C3D; They are below the surface as expected and as designed. I have also checked the layers; the correct surface is listed last. I expect the model builder surface is not as accurate as the c3d topo surface, but regardless of the layer order the pipes still are showing above ground.

Any ideas?

Hi @Anonymous

I understand that you have a Model Builder model and imported a surface and a pipe network from Civil 3D.

The surface import failed - why?

The pipe network import worked, but now the pipes are sticking out of the existing Model Builder terrain.

If that is correct, I believe you just need to make sure the Civil 3D surface can be imported to your InfraWorks model as well.

Can you send the IMX file and share your InfraWorks model with me? I will check on my side if I can make it import.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi @Anonymous

after testing the IMX files, I can confirm that the pipe data seems to have wrong elevations as they are on top of the surface. I did not use InfraWorks to confirm this, but imported the IMX files to Civil 3D. If Civil 3D is wrong, InfraWorks will be wrong as well.
I noticed that in one IMX you used a metric coordinates system and the other used an imperial unit.
I changed the coordinate systems so that the two IMX files match and can see the pipes on top of the surface.

Can you tell me a bit more about the origin of the data?

Did you export both IMX files from InfraWorks?

Did you create the pipes in InfraWorks or did you import them from Civil 3D before?
I am trying to fully understand your workflow to find the root cause of the wrong elevation information.

Regards,

Karsten.
