Autodesk Infrastructure Modeler error

Hello all, I am a Civil 3D user who has been using the Part Builder for a number of years. Over the years, I've finally become fed up with the Part Builder and I'm looking for an alternative. As such, I am looking to use Inventor to create custom parametric parts that can be used within Civil 3D and Infraworks. However, I do not currently have a subscription to Inventor and I am currently subscribed to a 2017 version of Infraworks. I am trying to use a trial version of Inventor 2019 to test out the capabilities of Inventor as they pertain to creating custom parametric parts for use with Civil 3D's "Infrastructure Parts Editor" prior to actually subscribing to the software. The problem is that the "Infrastructure Modeler" functionality that I need is included with Infraworks (not Inventor) and may not have been introduced until 2018 (I'm currently running 2017).

I've done some research on the forums and it appears that this is an issue with Infraworks and not with Inventor. The following link indicates that the "Infrastructure Modeler" should be able to be manually installed per the following link. Since I am running an older version of Infraworks, I have tried downloading a trial version of Infraworks 2019 to access the "Infrastructure Modeler" plugin. The problem is that the "shapemodeler.msi" file (indicated in the following link) was nowhere to be found in the Autodesk directory provided. Is the "Infrastructure Modeler" plugin not available with the trial version of Infraworks 2019?

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/civil-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Civi...

Any help on this issue would be much appreciated. This functionality is the sole reason for myself and my company to use the Inventor software and to upgrade to Infraworks 2019 at this time, but I cannot justify subscribing if I cannot test it out first. Thanks in advance!

David

Hi @dyursCW

I think you are talking of the "Infrastructure Parts Editor".

It is actually installed with InfraWorks 2018/2019 or Civil 3D 2019, but can also be installed separately for example via the Autodesk Desktop App, for example:

But I am not sure if the catalogs you create will be working in version 2017, honestly I have never tested this.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi @dyursCW,

You can install the Autodesk Infrastructure Modeler plugin 2019.2 from your Autodesk account. If you login to your Autodesk account you can then go to product updates. Under Inventor 2019 you will see the plugin.

The plugin will install on top of Inventor and then you will be able to export an IPT file from Inventor to use as a custom part in Infraworks. Let me know if this works for you.

Since you are a Civil 3D user do you have a subscription to Civil 3D? If so then you can get the plug-in in your Autodesk account under Civil 3D. If you log in to your Autodesk account then go to All Products and Services, click on your Civil 3D subscription, then click on Updates and Add ons. You will then see the Infrastructure Modeler Plugin 2019.2 Update in there. I hope this answers your question, if you have any more questions let me know.
